Please tell us your success stories

In another post we were discussing how easily we can get down and stressed when we see all the posts that are the problems people have encountered along the way.

It's human nature that people will more likely post the negatives on the board either to vent or so that others can learn from the issues that they had.

But to help alleviate some of the stress, could you take the time and tell us about your success stories so that we can see the light at the end of the tunnel (and hopefully it's not an incoming train!)? Your case doesn't have to be closed, but let us know the important milestones and how they came and went and were hopefully pretty non-eventful. Or let us know about trustees that were sympathetic or at least not nasty.

Hopefully, some of the people who rarely post and mostly read will share their experiences here.

That's an excellent suggestion...... we sure don't want newbies to "think" their bankruptcy would be LIKE MINE........... would scare them to death...... and cause them to have a nervous breakdown before they even started the process.....

YES FOLKS, many of you had easy BK's - tell us about them and how you felt before you filed, during the process, and the feelings right afterwards when it all ended.....................

I'm listening.................... (wishing it had been me)....

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.

I filed pro-se on 01/18/2006, less than a week after I decided to file. My 341 was on Valentines Day and the deadline for objections was the same day as tax returns were due (04/17/2006). Two months have gone by since the objection deadline passed and now that I have gotten a clerical error at the clerk's office fixed I am discharged! I'm just waiting on the closing now!
        Filed Pro-se: 01/18/06
        341 meeting: 02/14/2006
        Objection Deadline: 04/17/06

Well I'll start at the beginning.....

Our expenses were out of control. We had both our sons 18 months apart (by choice not accident). However we could never have predicted that BOTH would be autistic. Insurance covers very little so most everything went on credit cards so we could afford their treatment. In February 2004 we couldn't do it anymore. Our CC debt was so much that we paid $1500/month in minimum payments alone. It was a very bleak time in our marriage and we were on the verge of divorce largely because of the stress of our debt and of course raising two special needs children.

We filed May 15, 2004 and our 341 was June 30th. It was uneventful and I was soooo glad it was over with. The 341 I worried about the most but that worry was for nothing. The meeting lasted 5 minutes if that. In August we took our annual trip to Disneyland (we lived in WA at the time) but before we did, we asked our attorney if it was okay. We paid cash for the whole trip so she said it was fine. Our discharge came in September and I felt like a huge weight had been lifted. I'll also mention that my husband and I went through counseling (both marital and individual) during all this too! Ugh! Bad times but in the end everything was MUCH better!!!

In May 2005 my husband found out that the company he had worked for for the past 9+ years was relocating to Mexico and all 200 employees would lose their jobs. My husband's last day of work would be March 31, 2006. In September 2005 we found out that the apartment complex we lived in was going condo and we'd have to vacate by April 30, 2006. So we were losing our only source of income AND our home at the same time!!! Time to worry yet? Nah, not us. We've been through so much already, this was nothing. So we did what most people never do......we relocated! LOL! People thought we were NUTS. We were so unhappy living in WA but we LOVE California. So in April we moved to California. No job, no place to live. Crazy right?

Two days after we got here we got a sweet deal on a house to rent. Our landlord was just a guy with a house to rent out. He didn't check our credit or references or anything! Hubby didn't even have a job but did have 12 weeks of severance pay. That was good enough. We got the house!!! 30 minutes from Disneyland no less (which truly is The Happiest Place on Earth!). About 3 weeks later hubby got a new job. Not just any job either. One that paid $20K more than his previous job! Add to that they gave him a bonus just to sign with them!!!!

Good things can happen! They really can! To all that are just now going through this, hang in there! It does get better!
