    What about AFTER BK?

Aside from the fact your credit is shot, and the usual 7-10 years before you can drop the BK stigma from the good old Credit Report, have any of you had other issues, here are a few that come to mind:

    Turned down for jobs?
    Higher Homeowners insurance?
    Higher insurance for Autos?

Less than favorable interest rate on EVERYTHING from bank loans, car loans, providing you can even get them!

I filed BK when I was 19. I'm 37 now. (and find myself in much the same boat again!) but I've have to live with and STILL did with all the above stuff.

I don't want to file because I'm tired of being a second class citizen because I've had some credit problems. Besides, what does having horrible credit have to do with my driving record? I have a PERFECT SPOTLESS driving record, but in OHIO your still considered HIGH RISK!! When I bought my home years ago, I was considered HIGH RISK and had to have an indemity company issue my policy at ove 2x the standard rates!

Many of us have not encountered the problems you are having after we filed bankruptcy.....

Our interest rates may be a little high right after bankruptcy, but nothing that doesn't go down after about 2 years......

My auto insurance or homeowners insurance never changed..... and my home was lost in bankrutpcy and I had to buy it back.......

I had a lot of difficulty with my bankruptcy and still am (some things) but I've never been turned down on a job because of it, or had premiums raised because of it......

The fact that you filed BK 18 years earlier, there should be nothing on your credit report regarding it................... Have you checked your credit report lately? Dispute items you need too!!

Sorry to hear that you have to go down that road again.......

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.

Our insurance went up due to the Ch 7 but we changed to a different carrier and they didn't care about our credit record (plus they were cheaper w/better coverage).

My Dh applied for a job and I feel he got turned down once they found out about the BK. It was for a financial institution. Everything about the interview process went fine up till that point and then nothing.....not even a call. Thankfully he had another interview the following week for a company that did indeed pull his credit report but they still hired him so I guess not every company cares.

When we were looking at homes to rent only one place flat out turned us down because of the BK. Every other place was able to work with us without making us feel like 2nd class citizens.

I got a job with the federal government, after filing bankruptcy. The job offers can actually be more affected by having large amounts of debt with little income.
        Filed: 3/7/06
        341: 4/3/06
        Last Day for Objections: 6/2/06
        Discharged: 6/9/06
        Case Closed: 6/15/06

I have noticed that most companies don't mind BK. What they don't really like is if you are currently in debt. Say you are in debt by 60k, and you are trying to get a job at a decent place.. if they do pull credit reports they look down on it if you haven't done anything about the problem. They look at it as if you won't be focused on the job, you will have your mind on your financial problems and different stuff like that. My uncle runs two nuclear plants up in Ohio and he told me that that is what they look at. If you are in the process of bankruptcy, or debt consolidation then they don't mind. I donno just my 2 cents.
