An employee cannot be fired for filing BK. However, that's the law and the real world doesn't always work that way. (You'll see in another thread somewhere that someone was given the "it's not working out speech" after they found out she filed). If possible, do not have the trustee take the money straight from your paycheck--this will ensure your place of employment will find out about the BK. Ask to do a direct withdrawl from your checking account instead if the trustee allows it.

Just a question, unless you sign up for payroll deductions, how will they ever find out? My employeer knows, but only because of the payroll deduction thing.
They rarely will find out. If it's posted in the paper, it's in that tiny little type back with the classifieds where legal notices are printed. The majority of people don't read them. It's public record, but who else goes into Pacer?
I did read one instance on this board where someone googled her own name and it came up with her name on the BK docket.

I really don't think it would come to that, especially if they dont know. And I would avoid the payroll deduction too, if at all possible. You arent bk'ing on your account there I assume?
I work for a hospital, and we filed on a bill from them. No one has ever said a word to me about it. And they didn't even bother to file a claim( it was less than $200)
Funny thing is, that if they would have allowed payroll deductions, the debt would have been paid for painlessly long before we filed, just that by the time other bills were paid, there was seldom anything left for the hospital bill.
