    First Credit Report Correction Done

Filed a dispute online with Equifax 10 days ago, and received notification in the mail that the disputed item has been corrected. They also included a new copy of the credit report with the now corrected item.

I posted this to encourage those of you who get discharged to get right to work on fixing those errors. Sometimes it actually gets done right the first time.

    Last Day for Objections: 6/2/06

Thanks, Rob-NC! I just received an email today from Experian, and they have also corrected the errors in that report. Two down, one (TransUnion) to go.

Just heard from TransUnion today, and now all 3 reports are fixed! It's amazing in today's Internet world how quickly things can actually work! I filed the disputes with all 3 agencies online 6/25/06, and now on 7/8/06, all 3 reports are fixed.

I encourage everyone to get to work immediately upon discharge to get those credit reports cleaned up. Now I may apply for ONE (and only ONE) credit card to help rebuild the credit. I have my student loan payment through Sallie Mae as another tradeline (which I payed on time.) Eventually I will add one more credit card, and that will be it as far as credit cards.

Thanks everyone for advice and posting your experiences. This is how we help each other climb back up the mountain.

Are you all sure you should be doing disputes online? What if you check your reports in a month and some of the corrected items are incorrect once again? You won't have any proof that you already disputed the item once before. I'm happy that things have worked out for you so far, I just wouldn't want you to go through any crap later on just because you didn't do things via certified mail. I truly hope your corrected items remain that way.

I received a letter and new credit report copy from Equifax by mail, and I saved the emails from TransUnion and Experian. I will keep them on my computer in case of that very thing you mentioned. But let's hope not!

I've done them online and saved printouts (they give you a confirmation number). Then, I got snail mail with the status of the dispute and a new credit reports when they were complete (about 2 weeks.)

I had my friend (a mortgage broker) pull my credit scores from all 3 bureaus, and these are my scores after the disputes have been corrected:

                  Experian 641
                  TranUnion 614
                  Equifax 618

Feeling pretty good, considering that my credit scores pre-bankruptcy were around the same (due to debt/income ratio mostly.) Now I was just approved for a credit card (Capital One, who I had a good relationship with years ago, and closed my cards with them on good terms.) I feel good things coming!
