    marriage and credit

my bf and i have been talking about getting married but we're wondering if my bk, and therefore, bad credit will turn his sour? do credits merge when you get married, or is he entitled to the option of keeping his disconnected from mine?

    Good thing to worry about!

I am getting married in a month, and we have had a LOT of discussions about this!

So let me get this straight, if he puts me as an authorized user on his cc my bad credit won't make him look bad even though our reports will be tied together at that point? This was very helpful, thank you.

Authorized User means just that. You have charging priveledges but the responsibility for the debt remains with him. The acct may show on your Credit Report but the listing will say Authorized User. The acct surely will show on his Credit Report along with the payment history and such.

You're thinking Joint, which is a whole different ballgame. If you apply for Credit or are given Credit Jointly, then the CRA's will link you together.

Hubby and I have owned so many houses, cars, and had so many CC's together, that everything is joint. You look at our Credit Reports, we look like the same person.

If he had a good payment history, Wenderful, that woulda been a positive reporting tradeline for you!
