    Credit Card Experiences after BK?

    Hi All

I was just discharged and closed yesterday and I have been reading here how people got Target Red and Hooters Cards very quickly after BK. I have a First Premier application on my desk that came in 2 weeks ago. I just want to start to rebuild - not get back into debt. I have adopted a cash only system for 8 months now, so I am not in a rush to break in the plastic. Any suggestions or secrets?

    Thanks

Check out your Credit Reports first. Make sure they are accurate. If they aren't, work on cleaning up an inaccuracies.

Then start applying for Credit with known BK Friendly Creditors.

Many Congrats on your discharge, SBB!!

The idea of credit cards scares me to death...but...I did get approved for one today and it is going to be a building block back to good credit. It is a low limit and will be used with alot of thought! Mostly because we are planning to go away next April for a wedding and will need to rent a car. I figured this would be a good way to have something built up for when we need it!

4 months out of bk, I have 7 new credit cards. Most of them I maxed the first month, paid all in full the first month, then destroyed the card. If I need to get a card back or quick money for any reason, I can request a replacement, or simply ask for a balance transfer check sent to me in my name to be cashed to myself.

The secret that I have found (after much research and my own experience) is to have a number of different types of open credit, and to keep a (small but some) balance on your credit card accounts.

I was inspired by this thread to apply for the Target card. I didn't qualify for a visa but I did get the Target Card!
