    a question about charge offs

so i've learned that "charge-offs" look bad on your credit report. what exactly are they and how do you get rid of them? (i ask because i have a couple on there after my 13).

chargeoffs are a definite blight on your credit report...the company charges off an account essentially when they have determined the debt is not collectable.

We have charge off on our reports....all our medical bills show as that. I have disputed them all different ways, no such luck. After all the disputing...I at least have them reporting as IIB, with a zero balance, so at least they are not active.

i figured if they got paid off during a 13 then when you were discharged it would show paid. probably wishful thinking. i'm a little irritated that sallie mae chose to report my sl's as defaulted and remarked "charged off" when i didn't even consolidate the damn things to begin with. i've been intending to pay them directly (my deferrment still has 4 months to go) right from the very beginning and now there's another bad mark on my record for good intentions. blows my mind...
