    Wrong discharge date

Hello. After reading up on this site oodles of invaluable information to help a friend in a bad situation, who is considering bankruptcy, I have discovered a mistake in my own file! I was discharged from bankruptcy in 2000, but my Equifax file shows 2001. This makes a difference, because if shown correctly, it would have fallen off by now. I am about to print off their dispute form and mail it off, but am not sure what to send along with it. I read somewhere here that you're not supposed to send them certain documenst as they may come back to bite you. Do I send them a copy of my discharge?

    Thanks for any help.

Oh, this is in Canada, but it should be not that much different than US. Thank you.

U can send them a copy of ur discharge or u can just write them and tell them. But have u tried calling them to dispute sometimes that works as well but the reason people write letters is to save a paper trail.

Princesskina, thanks for your reply. I spoke to both Equifax and Trans Union this morning. Filed the dispute with TU in person, submitted the dispute to EQ by fax. EQ record of bankruptcy will drop off as soon as correction is made:
"A bankruptcy automatically purges six (6) years from the date of discharge in the case of a single bankruptcy." - Equifax Canada
Trans Union, however, keeps the record for 7 years. Regardless, I'm happy I found the mistake and was able to correct it (or set wheels in motion for now). Thanks again.

Congrats! I can't wait until I can say mine is gone!
