    after bankruptcy help needed plz

hi every1 ,....it has been 3 years that I have filled for bankruptcy,....and I am at a point that I would like to start reestablishing my credit again. Some1 told me that it is a good idea to first start by changing your name, and never 2 give out your social insurance number when asked. Not even on the credit card forms or at the bank. It was true cause I had my name change done and opened a new account and they did not ask me for my SIN.

Now is that possible in any way or do I have 2 wait the 7 years pass in order 2 play with credit again. If there is a way how can I get my credit back? Am really lost and seek help. If any1 has gone trough this and knows what 2 do and could give me advise I would appreciate it a lot.

I am in Canada but the rules are al the same in the U.S.A. or Canada

^^ I dont know about the rules in Canadat BUT what I do know if would read others threads especially "fillingonmyown" and "nascarfan" you would see these guys started cleaning up there credit within 3months after discharge and are doing GR8 when it comes to credit.

You need to take a look @ all your reports to make sure all info is accurate.

I don't know what you are doing or trying to do but it sounds like you want to play a game and you are going to end up in alot of trouble. Do you want to PLAY with credit or do you want to manage it responsibly? All that name change, social insurance number, is that what they call it in Canada? sounds to me like you are asking for trouble, not how to improve your credit.

Changing your name will not get you any further in the credit game, not unless you can change your SIN along with it (highly unlikely). Even if you don't give out your SIN on your credity apps and a new credit file is created under the new name, a week/month/year later something will trigger a connection with the old file and the two will merge. I don't know how it works in the US, but this is precisely how it works in Canada.

BK stays on TransUnion for 7 years, on Equifax for 6. Those are the only two reporting agencies here (so far). Credit card issuers are not as liberal here as they are in the US, so getting established once again will be tougher. First, get a copy of each of your credit reports from both agencies. Either request by mail or instantly for a few dollars at TransUnion and Equifax. You're entitled to one free report per year, by mail or in person.

Once you have the reports, try to legitimately dispute any extra or erronneous information on there, like aliases, old addresses, etc.

Apply for a couple of credit cards. Ask around and see who (what bank/retailer) is more liberal at that time in your area. If you get declined, approach your (or other) bank and request a secured visa or mastercard. Make sure if you're getting a secured card that you do so at a bank and not at a MoneyMart or some place like that, as the usability of the cards varies greatly from one issuer to another. Also, before you get the card, be sure to ask the bank whether it reports to the CRAs just as a regular visa/MC, as it will do you little good if it doesn't.

All in all, do it right this time. You've messed up once, no need to do it again. Especially not for the sake of cutting out a couple of years or corners in the credit rebuilding process.

        Good luck!

As far as all the name change and SSN# stuff, thats a little extreme and sounds absolutely ridiculous.

On top of that, even if you could start over with a new ssn#...... Guess What? Its better to have a bad credit report with a bk, than to have no credit whatsoever!

Just apply to banks truthfully and honestly. I have more credit now, 5-6 mos. out of bk, than I did pre bk.

You dispute the accounts if they are still showing as past due with a balance owed.

Make sure all of those are all listed as "included/declared in bankruptcy" or something similar, not open and still owing/overdue. This way, they will fall off the credit reports in due time. That due time could vary. They tell you it's six/seven years, but many times they fall of in three/four/five, leaving just a blanket bankruptcy declaration in place.

I think you should get the reports first, adimonaco, before planning the what-ifs. Once you know what's on the reports, you should have a better idea how to approach creditors. You'll also know what problem(s) to address. ;)

If there are any errors, you dispute according to the directions given on the report.

Rebuild. One card at a time. Ask around to find out who the most liberal credit lenders in your area are, retail or bank. Credit repair doesn't happen overnight. I know you're anxious, but you have to slow down a bit. Good fortune.
