my state is louisiana

I am in the process of claiming bankruptcy chapter 7. I go to the lawyers office tomorrow to sign the papers. Well I just noticed that one of my creditors is garnishing my wages. Is there anything I can do about it?
Also should I notify my other creditors that I am claiming bankruptcy or wait till tomorrow after I sign the papers and let the lawyer do it or what?

Just fax and or express mail the creditor garnishing your wages a copy of your stamped petition. The automatic stay will go into effect, and they will not be able to garnish your money.

ok. thats fine about the garnishment but what about notifying my other creditors. Should I do it or let the lawyer do it tomorrow after I sign the papers. Also I heard if one of the creditors garnish your wages within so many days before you claim you somehow get the money back. Is this true?

That depends upon the state you live in. I'll forewarn you that trying to get your money back can be a hassle, especially if it isn't much money. Some creditors will send you a reimbursement check within three weeks of recieving your BK 7 petition.

If you have several creditors taking garnishment action against you, then fax and overnight your court stamped petition to each creditor. But if you don't just let them recieve your petition via the court. If the creditors continue attempting to collect from you even after several weeks have elapsed have your attorney send them an Easement letter.

Good Luck! :)
