Equifax score

I checked my credit scores today (an everyday thing on Truecredit.com) and my Equifax score went down 5 points.

The only thing that has changed on my report in the last month is a payment that was made on my cc on time...with the status of OK. There was 1 credit inquiry from the same company for Equifax and Transunion....and that was yesterday and only Equifax score has changed.

That has no effect. Except for to eliminate pre screened offers that could potentially raise your credit score.

What is opt out?

Would it go down 5 pts just for the inquiry? I had the enquiry from the same place for 2 diff CRA.

If the inquiry is the only change to your credit report, than its the only possible explanation.

To 'opt out' is to contact the credit bureaus and inform them you do not want to recieve 'pre-screened' offers. Just like phone companies sell lists of telephone #'s to telemarketers, credit bureaus sell lists to lenders that meet certain criteria and thats how you get pre-qualified offers in the mail. They don't perform an official 'inquiry' on your credit report to do this, and an inquiry cannot be done without your permission, so there is no effect on your scores.
