Cell Phones: Denied (Sorta) Nextel, Approved T-Mobile...

We needed cell phone service. I applied with Nextel, I think they pulled Euifax (631 score) and was approved... but, they wanted a $200 deposit + an additional $30 per month for some sort of credit risk type fee? That was a joke.

So, the hubby applied to T-Mobile. I think they pulled TransUnion (469 score) and was approved, no deposit required. We got the family plan with two free phones. I can't beleive he was approved with such a low credit score!

So, the moral of the story... if you are looking for cell phone service and have very poor credit... T-Mobile may be the answer.

T-Mobile has the best rates too! I've been with them since 2000 and they have been wonderful.

I checked around at pre-paid plans too for a friend and found that T-Mobile has the best pre-paid plans as well.

We just re-up'd our contract with them, got two FREE Razr phones (not normally offered to the public, but we've been with them so long they gave them to us) and we're going to cancel our landline phone with Verizon -- will save $60 per month by canceling the home landline!

Congrats and welcome to T-Mobile -- their customer service is awesome!

T-Mobile may have good rates, but thuer overall coverage sucks. OP should have applied with SPRINT not NEXTEL. Even though SPRINT ownes NEXTEL, there deposit procedure is much more leanient. Plus you would be able to get a phone in 2 months that will work on both SPRINT and NEXTEL networks. I know alot about cellular service, and that would have been the best way to go

I love sprint personally. Just got the Samsung A-90 phone for me and a Katana (I think that's what it's called) for my daughter. I've had them for a long time though.....way before filling bankruptcy.

Never had a problem with T-Mobile's coverage -- not once in 6 years +

Yup. Although I included a t-mobile contract in my bk filing and still hate them, I have to go with who is cheapest. I won't sign a contract, and t-mobile is the cheapest for prepaid IF you buy $100 refills. A $100 refill gets you 1,000 minutes (10 cents a minute) and is good for a year. Each refill lasts me about 3 months. No bills, no contracts.

I said overall coverage... T-Mobile and Sprint are the 2 carriers that will give phone to anyone.

TMobile isn't in my area and I filed on sprint from a phone card in college.

                      Verizon here.
I was approved just a few months out of BK, before I started cleaning up my scores. The coverage is good, but the customer service completely sucks.
BUSY running my own credit repair services! Sorry I don't stop in so often any more!

Verizons and Sprint have almost the same coverage.
