Ok, so I've been trying to rebuild my credit since after my bankruptcy. I go to check my credit report, and to my surprise, there is a CA reporting a debt in an amount that I am totally unaware of, as I don't recall it. I called them this morning, and he breaks it down for me. I took my children to the dentist, and my insurance company told me that the services they were receiving were covered (preventative maintenance) at 100%. I never received a bill, just the information from the insurance company regarding payment of a totally different amount. Well, now I have negative entry on my credit report that I don't know what to do about. Even the man at the CA said they mailed me something, which I never received. I've requested them to send me something CERTIFIED. WHAT DO I DO??? I'm trying to get my credit straight so I can by a house. This man went on to say he called me and the line was busy. That's impossible, as I have call-waiting and voicemail. Even if the kids are talking 3-way, it rolls over to voice mail. WHAT DO I DO? I'm panicking right now. The stupid dentist office won't be open until Monday. What a horrible weekend I must endure. If there is anyone out there that can help me, please chime in. I really feel bummed about a negative mark on my newly rebuilding credit. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

FOMO...I took the kids to the dentist after my discharge. Because I never received a bill, and my insurance company said they covered what we were going in for at 100%, I thought all was taken care of. Now all of a sudden, my CR takes a hit, and I'm baffled. I will be going in and talking to the dentist people Monday. I cannot afford to take a hit like this.

Thanks!!! Do you think it can be removed from the CR? I'm just huffy that I never received a bill telling me I owed the debt. I won't have a problem with paying, I'm just upset that I didn't know about it until it showed up as an entry on my CR. If it is valid, I'm prepared to pay it. I'd just like to know why it got this far without me being notifed.

FIRST and foremost you need to talk to your insurance. They can tell you who and how much was paid. They will have the info if the dentist was paid or not......DO NOT bother with the CA yet. Get all the CORRECT info from your insurance company...they are the ones who will help you get to the bottom of this.
The CA will say anything about getting you to bad..dont listen to them right now. If it is in your favor it wil be removed and all back to on your way to saving for that house.
I used to work in a dental office I know how the insurance works.

Hello ALL. I did speak to my insurance company today, and they were able to break it down. It turns out that they covered a portion of the cost, but that instead of the 100%, it was on a fee based scale. The dentist could only charge me a certain amount, and couldn't go over. Well, the charges are valid at this point, but why didn't I get a bill? I called the dentist's office, and they were not very nice to me. They basically told me that there is a problem with my postal service as to why I never received a bill. I did find out that the amount that they are asking is INCORRECT on their part. But that it is still with the collection agency, and that I have to deal with them. I'm going to pay it this week. But, once paid, does it come off my report, or will it remain FOREVER??? Thanks in advance!!!

If the dentist was a participating provider of your health insurance carrier, then they have agreed to accept what the insurance company pays them as payment in full, plus your co-pay. Was this an out-of-plan doctor?
If you pay the balance in full, it will show as being paid in full on your credit report, but highly unlikely you will get the original collection action removed from your credit report, which is very unfortunate.
But once you pay it, your credit score will go up and it will show that you took care of this obligation. All will work in your favor.
Good luck on the purchase of your new home!
