My estranged husband is filing for bankruptcy, how can this affect me?

Hello

I have a general question?
My estranged husband has just told me he will file for bankruptcy in a few days. He hid his finances from me. How does this affect me?

We don't have any joint accounts except one checking account. Car is under my name, and no joint credit cards. Is there anything I can do to protect myself from his financial problems or do I automatically inherit them all?

Is the only way to protect myself by getting a divorce?

Thank you so much. I am so confused.

As long as you two don't share any joint debts with creditors you will not be affected by his BK Filing. You might want to remove yourself from your joint bank account with him, just in case he decides to list the bank on his BK petition.

Good Luck! :)
