If it's the auto loan lender charging the $250 fee, I'd bet the Lender is wanting you to pay their legal fees associated with the Reaffirmations.Originally posted by 9877donna View PostWow saucey I didn't know there was a fee to reaffirm a vehicle. Is it possible that this is your lawyers fee?

That's like a billable hour per Reaffirmation agreement.
If you filed Pro Se, it would be free.
You'd get the Forms from the Court, have your Lender sign and you sign, then file it with the Court.
Then the Judge and/or Trustee would have a "special" hearing with you to explain Reaffirmation, make sure you know what you're doing, that you weren't coerced, check your budget to be sure you can afford it, and you'd be good to go.
The attny should have told you about this charge up front when you were in the decision making process. I'd bet you mentioned you planned to reaffirm at the very least your mortgage during your Consult.Filed Ch 7 - 09/06

Mortgages don't have to be reaffirmed (and I almost never recommend reaffirmation of a second mortgage--there's too much possibility of future liability). Heck, I almost never recommend reaffirmation of a car, but Maryland doesn't allow for repossession solely for breach of the ipso facto clause (allowing a repo solely because you filed for bankruptcy).Originally posted by saucey View Posti think its my lawyers fees.i have to reaffirm my first and second mortgages and one car.i dont know what else to do.any suggestions anyone?i did call my bank with the first mortgage and they told me that they dont do the paperwork anymore that i have to go through my lawyer.it doesnt seem right to me.

Saucey,I think if you keep making the payments on your Mortgage and Car there's no reason to reaffirm. Most mortgage companies and auto lenders don't require you to reaffirm just keep the payments up to date and you should be fine.Originally posted by saucey View Posthey interlaw!so is my lawyer full of it?he said with the new laws you have to reaffirm.
So sorry this is happening to you.
