As I mentioned previously, we recently moved from CA to WA. We had DirecTV at our previous home, and had paid cash at Best Buy for our DVR's when we originally started our service.

I had called DirecTV in mid-October to cancel our service, no problem, right? Then at the end of October I discovered that they did turn that service off - by moving it to our new house, without ever actually installing new service there! On top of that, our previous monthly bill was $70/mo (high, I know), and at the new house it was something like $155!!! The yahoo not only didn't cancel, he added a premium sports package onto our non-existent service!

When I called to have this taken care of, an extremely rude woman informed me that I was in a contract that wouldn't expire until June 09 -huh??? When I told her that I never agreed to that, she smugly informed me that it was in the fine print, and I should've read it... who reads those litttle tiny print brochures they give you? Well, I guess I should lol. She then told me that I would have something like a $375 termination fee, and I would have to pay for the DVR's (which I paid CASH for), plus she wouldn't retroactively cancel the service, I would have to pay that new bill (even though they never connected our service).

Well, knowing that I'm going to file for BK in the near future, I'm thinking "Good luck with that, I'm not paying!". Except THEN she tells me that in the fine print I preauthorized them (20 months ago) to charge an account they have on record for the costs! And, Oh No!, the account they have on record is our direct deposit checking account, which I had used online to make one-time payments.

So here I am now: I cleared all pending items and closed the checking account, then called to cancel the service. She told me I have to pay the $375 term. charge, now TWO bills at $155 each, and $440 each for the DVR's!! That's $1,565!!! Absolutely insane. Keep in mind, had I kept their service, it would've cost $630 . Pretty ugly. This time, I did say "Good luck with that, I'm not paying.". An unfortunate bit that will now just be lumped into our BK.

What was really funny, at the end of our conversation, she told me she was sorry to see us go, and that if we ever want their services again, they'd be happy to have us back!
