Here I was the one who originally started this thread fairly disgusted by what I had seen now I am hooked. Yep I sat there Saturday night and watched the whole thing. I didnt think it was as exciting or as gross as the last fight. No ear explosions just a little bit of blood.
As for the Kimbo fight. I really thought that looked like it was set up. It really had that fake wrestling feel to it. Either way I am sure there will be another big headliner like that soon.
Now for the girl fighters. I know you die hard MMA fans will probably slam me for saying this but that was so fixed!!!! The pretty girl wins.... Actually I didnt think she was all that pretty except for when she was made up. Carado(?) or something like that was the name. The breast implants is what kind of gave it away. All that other girl had to do was grab those boobs and squeeze and the fight would have been over. Pop!
Sorry just kind of thinking out loud.
Its definately exciting to watch and has that 'cover your eyes' factor to it. I just cannot take it as serious as some of you because I honestly dont believe its as real as old fashioned boxing.

Did anyone catch last Saturday's main event? It only lasted 14 seconds! lol Kimbo finally got "got". His post fight comment was quite upstanding I must say. Kimbo has always been pretty humble about his MMA fights, knowing that he's basically still a newbie in this league and nothing compared to all the backyard brawls he fought and won.

Caught "Fight Science" on National Geographic last night--totally captivating.
If you've never seen it, they do a total scientific set up with crash-test dummies, kinesiology oriented devices, special cameras, etc. and have several MMA guys do their thing.
Bas Rutten, Tito, Couture, and a few others were on hand to kick, punch, grapple. I kept falling asleep (good thing I dvr'ed it), but results were astounding...a body slam registered 2,000+ pounds of force, a punch by Bas was way over the force used to define a concussion, I believe it was Couture who had the mind/body control while grappling to actually LOWER the lactic acid produced.
They also went into the training aspect...it's all about conditioning.

Anyone watch UFC 85? Matt Hughes got WHOOPED!! He should just retire now and earn a good living training up and comers.

Even the bests of the MMA fighters have lost a fight or two/three. Kimbo actually did surprisingly well on the ground last weekend. Much of it probably do to his recent training and physical strength. I personally think he tapped out in the first round though! Did anyone else notice this?
His opponment was significantly larger, and more experienced that he was too. If Kimbo continues to compete in these MMA competitions he will most likely lose because he still doesn't have the technical fighting skills yet to fight against a more skilled fighter with several years experience---especially if the fight goes to the ground. Kimbo will continue to get pressure to fight against an experience MMA fighter to prove that he is a good fighter. When he in fact already is; he just hasn't developed the technical proficiencies yet like your: Penns, Ortiz, Shamrocks, Gracies, etc. He just needs to stay focused, remain humble, and not be to hasty to compete against a fighter that is significantly more experienced than he is just to earn some MMA "cred" that he may want. The sad reality of the matter is typically takes at least 5 years of conistent training to become a skilled grappler/brazillian jujitsu practitioner.
But I bet Kimbo could knock out even the best MMA fighter if they fight remained on feet. Kimbo also needs to improve his endurance conditioning too...the smoking doesn't help either. Kimbo's career will probably only last another two years tops. He started in the "game" to late, and is nearing the age of retirement already.Last edited by HRx; 06-05-2008, 06:57 AM.

I'm sure Kimbo will eventually lose. Of course being pitted against an experienced opponent will do the trick. I'm just glad that he is delivering some excitement. I don't think a wrestler is a good example though. It will take a master submission artist to take him out. Brock Lesnar is a pro wrestler and there was a tone of hype when he stepped into the ring with Frank Mir. And those who watched the fight know what I'm talking about. 1 minute into the first round and Brock get tied up like a pretzel! Wrestling is the worst style for the MMA. Wrestling gives you chokes etc, but lets face it, any experienced MMA fighter is not going to get choked out by a wrestler. They probally need to stick to the funny face paint and shiny tights.

I agree I wouldn't want to get into a fist fight with Kimbo, he throws a heck of a punch. But coming from a wrestler, he doesn't have the ground game that he needs to at this time to fight somebody really good. His opponent has got to get him down on the mat and then it would be a whole lot easier to get him to tap out.

I'm a fan of MMA a lot of talent and hard work goes into being a conditioned/good MMA fighter. In regards to Kimbo the guy has A LOT of raw street fighting talent, and now that he's training with good MMA teams he will be able to fine tune his raw talent into more technical fight skills. The guy admits that he's a noobie when it comes to MMA arena competitions. He really deserves more respect that he is given...a lot of the animosity that he gets is just jealousey from other fighters because he's a knockout/destroy-em type of fighter. More importantly, all MMA fighters will lose in thier careers. It's justs the nature of the beast.
Parents should definately exercise discretion in allowing thier young children watch any type of MMA/UFC etc fights.

Your photos are not manly but I see them as probably very 'touched up'. Her nose doesnt even look broken!
Here are a couple of example of what I meant by manly, Even touched up this girl looks MANLY
This one here looks like she cleans up nice but you can still see the manliness about her
*** I couldnt figure out how to get a picture to show here so I just put the address...
I also noticed that they use the term Extreme CombatLast edited by momof5; 06-05-2008, 04:12 AM.

Just to say btw, I'm a Kimbo fan because of his ruthless pursuit on guys in bare knuckle straight out punch fights. He reminds me a lot of Tyson when he first started, although Kimbo is a lot older. But I give him credit for stepping up his game and going MMA and trying. He'll need at least a few more good years of consistent training before he is ready for some of the upper guys of MMA. But on bare knuckle straight out punching matches, I would bet on him at least giving a top MMA a run for his money. He's stepped into their ring and has issued challenge after challenge for anyone to step into his. I'll admit, i didn't like him that much after the 3rd or 4th fight I saw him do (when he was first getting popular on viral video) because he was talking so much trash, but he delivers defeats.

Well, I guess everyone has their own opinion on MMA, but I consider it a great sport that isn't violent. Just my opinion
I used to box and did a little wrestling at the gym and loved the competition and respected the other guys I went against, and they respected me. You usually see guys hug or at least shake hands after each MMA fight because it is a sport and they respect that. I don't know, I guess being on a main network channel, its bound to upset some people. But knowing how to fight and the patience it teaches you (along with building confidence) is good self defense in this day and age.

Arent there women who do this as well? I didnt see that part but on the MMA website it shows a couple of 'manly' females who must have fought before I turned on the TV.

Manly????????? Did I miss something?

I don't see her as "manly" far from docile but we have to give credit where credit is due... And yes, this is Saturday night's MMA winner.
I agree that Kimbo will eventually get his ass handed to him but I honestly don't think it will be soon. He is now training with some of the best MMA fighters and if he ups his cardio to a respectful level I think he will definitely be a contender. I think he will take the sport to whole new levels of dirty. I respect ambition and he definitely has something to prove. Honestly, if they keep talking about Kimbo vs. Mike Tyson in the MMA I will be the first in line to see that. Dennis...... Tell me you would not watch that!!Originally posted by Dennis1971 View PostI personally am not a Kimbo Slice fan, I will be really glad to see him be put up against another real fighter. I never did get a kick out of seeing him show up in a parking lot somewhere and beat up some sorry sap. Most of these guys had no clue what they were getting into. I think he will get spanked when he fights somebody descent. One more reason why I like the MMA arena.

MMA is the only thing that makes me smile any more. It is the greatest sport on the planet. Gina Carano is smoking hot and she kicks ass (literally) and Kimbo Slice is a machine. I love the sport and you should totally let your kids watch it! Kimbo is a street fighting super sensation that has finally been put at a level that he is challenged. he barely won that fight and if he continues he will only be challenged even harder. If you can watch his fights and not feel sympathy pains when he hits someone, you are heartless!!!! Viva la MMA!! And now a link to see Kimbo tackle someone for a $100!!
I'm Mr. Thompson and I approved this message.
