    Building credit with student loans?

If I were to make payments toward my federal student loans while in school (and thus the loans are in deferment), would that help rebuild my credit? Or do payments only help my credit once I'm in repayment?

Hmmm... I'm not sure how that works. Because student loans are deferred, I'm not sure that those payments would show up on your credit. I would reccommend calling your student loan lender and asking them if it is possible to not have the loan deferred and begin making payments right away.

Once you do start making payments, it will definitely help rebuild your credit.

Indeed I've no idea .As said it would be better calling a

student lender who would suggest you more information.Well that would help

you in your credit rebuilding process.

Actually when they are in deferment you get positive credit because they report on time. Making payments to them will make no difference if they are in deferment. Making the payments once in repayment keeps them positive.

Here are some interesting tips for you to create a good credit history,
            • Try — and try and try — to pay your bills on time. Minimize your payments by choosing credit cards that have low rates and no fees.
            • Limit credit-card purchases to emergency situations only.
            • Obtain a copy of your credit report once a year to check its accuracy.
            • Don't lend your credit cards to anyone.
            • Report a stolen or lost card immediately to avoid any credit history complications.

Student Loans are not the best vehicle for rebuilding credit; sure, if you have them, you should pay them on time, etc. But their importance in your overall credit score is negligible because they are all guaranteed and don't require any credit worthiness to obtain.
