    Update on 02/28/2007 Thread

An update to my thread that I posted on 02/28/2007 needing credit assistance due to Sallie Mae incorrectly reporting my son in bankruptcy on a educational loan that he and DH co-signed for.

Sallie Mae admitted to making the error. They have updated my son's credit report to show that he never filed bankruptcy. Also, I have a letter from Sallie Mae stating that they submitted the correct information to the credit agencies and I will receive another letter when the credit agencies actually show the updated information on his credit report. Also, the gentleman that I worked with at Sallie Mae said that he will periodically check the credit reporting to make sure that nothing has changed. I will also check all credit reports every year. In addition, the gentleman at Sallie Mae also offered to check my son's credit report before he applies for any credit (i.e. buying a house or a car). All in all, I am pretty satisifed with the outcome. My son has other student loans with Sallie Mae (grace period) and we have already begun the process to have them consolidated through NSLD and get them out of Sallie Mae. The only loan left at Sallie Mae will be the one referenced above and that loan will be paid in full by us as soon as the bankruptcy is discharged in 37 months.
