Our little town made National News last weekend.... due to a tragedy around the corner from my house.
Two small boys (8 ad 10) climbed into their mom's car trunk, found themselves locked in and died from the heat.....
Last the mother seen of them they were playing with friends..... when she went hunting them they couldn't be found..... Neighbors, police, rescue squads searched door to door for 6 hours, before someone finally "thought" to check in car trunks in the driveway.... That's where they found them, they had been overcome by the heat of the day while in the trunk.
All new cars have safety systems to unlock a trunk from the inside.......2003 on I believe. Older cars do not..... but you can buy ($15.00) the hookup to put in your older car.
Please folks, check you auto trunks for safety latches on the inside. If you don't have one - put one in!!!
Also, very important, stress upon you little ones and older ones too, not to play in the trunk of the car, and be sure they KNOW HOW TO USE the trunk opener from the inside of the trunk.........
A very sad weekend in my neighborhood...... and a sad month...... we have had 5 deaths in 2 weeks right around my house.... The death of older folks you accept, but babies - its really hard!!!
