    Ouch!

Got my water bill today and it was for $90.00!! I really can't wait to move. I've fixed the faucet a few times and it just starts leaking after a week. Toilet is always running, too. This blasted house just needs to be burned down.

There are holes in the hardwood floor where you can see our dirtly basement, gaps in the doors, some windows are painted shut and others won't shut all the way. When it rains it sounds like there is a waterfall because of the leaking basement.

2 more months of this and I'm done. I just have to deal with it for two more months until we move.

    Sorry just venting.

The most common problem with a toilet that runs is that the plug needs to be replaced (sometimes an entire new kit is needed). That doesn't cost to much really. This is assuming a running sound and the tank continually needing to fill as it runs through the plug.

If the floor is getting wet then there is two possibilities, a crack in the tank or the washer between the tank and the bowl is faulty.

Sinks that leak are generally caused by washer wear.

      Good Luck

I bought a fixer upper and I know first hand how expensive those leaks can be! The people who lived here before me had a leaky faucet. They had a water bill that was $150 a month!! I fixed the leak and installed a low flow/ high pressure showerhead ($5 at Wal-mart) and now my water bill is $10 a month. I thought it was a mistake the first month but it hasn't been above $10 yet. Even though it sounds like you're about ready to move out, it might be worth the time to fix the leaks so you can save the money on the bill.

Hope your renting and can move out...... if you own it - is it worth all the repairs needed?
To sell it you would have to fix everything or won't be many buyers..... unless you find someone who wants to "flip this house".... lol

Think of how much extra money you would have living somewhere where "everything works"...... it's a thought...

          Keep us posted.

              Update on "Ouch"

The 90.00 dollar water bill was only for a month. It hurt. Had my husband fix the toilet. Will work on sink again. BUT - I found out something else. DH came in yesterday to inform me that he kept hearing water running and everything was turned off. He went in the backyard to find that he had left the hose on a little from when he last washed his car!

Lately, that is a normal water bill here though it includes garbage pick up. I did have a running toilet and fixed it. I did not notice much difference since the summer uses more water outside. And of course I have a temporary room mate who uses about 10,000 gallons of hot water to wash one plate ( the faucet runs full blast on hot water for up to an hour doing dishes) then all his clothes go through 3 cycles of hot water and they are just torn jeans and raggy T shirts. That definately more than doubled my gas bill and the leaky toilet being fixed did not resolve much.

Yep...tried to explain how inconsiderate, unconservative and wasteful he was being but he insisted that he is my 'gifthorse'. This is what happens sometimes when someone moves in and stays 4 months for free. Thank God he does not own a car or uses the water outside...there is no doubt I would have found the hose outside running on hot water as well. So, I had him pitch in pay all the extra for gas and water for him staying for free and that still did not change his thinking about it. OUCH!

Hot water getting to outside?.. Whoever orginally design that plumbing pipe made a mistake! ...No hot water should be allowed outside unless... well... you want to take a hot spas with the ladies in a private "winterized" hot tub!?..

I live in Sunrise Florida, 90.00 is an average water bill here. Mine runs 85.00 to 105.00 that is normal in SoFla, with a pool I don't maybe double? I know it all evens out though, folks up north have big heating bills.

                      Ahhhh, the Country life................

My last water bill $14.89 (2 very clean people)...... sewer $.00...(septic tank)..... I live in the water district that has the cheapest rates in our county.... other counties pay a lot more and city is rediculous....

Only bad bill I have is electric, (and not really that bad $140.00)but I could keep that under control if my roommate would quit running the a/c with the patio doors open all day!!!!!!!

Guess I can consider myself very luck with some things... huh!!
