What Could THIS Be?????????

I got my first monthly statement since I filed BK (now that I'm discharged) from my auto loan company. This was a reaffirmed loan, everything went fine. I filed in June, so I did not receive a statement for my payt due in July, Aug or Sept. This statement is for the payt due in Oct. During that entire time, I sent my payts to them on my own on time. Never late in a few years as a matter of fact. I thought everything was A-okay. In fact I had talked to them on the phone during my BK proceedings regarding my statement and online access and they were very nice and helpful, telling me that once my BK was discharged, I'd get regular statements again and be able to pay online, etc. etc.

WELL. Included in this statement is something called "Other Fees" of $290.52. There is NO explanation for this. It is just tacked on to my normal monthly payt, due in October.

What could it be??? Geez! Maybe I got some "fees" for filing BK? Or the paperwork for reaffirmation? This really burns me. I will find out Monday when I call them, but what is you guys' best bet? Or guess?

Who knows what "creative accounting" occured during your months in bankruptcy. Unfortunately this does happen sometimes to filers.

You need to send your car lender a registered, return receipt letter requesting an explanation of the charge along with a printout of your payment account month by month for the last eight months, including the months you were in bankruptcy. That may shed some light for you.

Call the lender if you wish, but unless you are living in a state that allows to record phone calls, you need something in writing to fight this if it comes to that.

Hang in there. You have a plan, now go execute it! Good luck!

Thanks lrprn. I will work on that letter this weekend. Payt isn't due until Oct. 22 so I should have time to get to the bottom of this.
