Ok, so what is the deal with women and stanky perfume in movies theaters? We have been to 3 movies this week and all three times we ended up next to someone wearing the STRONGEST STINGIEST PERFUME you can imagine!!!! We even moved tonight 4 rows behind and could still smell it!!! It smelled like the kind of perfum you would buy in one of those kits at the toy store for a 3 year old's birthday party. YUK!!!! What are they thinking!!! Ok, enough of my rant!!! But the movie we saw tonight was great. 30 days of night! Creepy, gotta see it!

I HATE STRONG PERFUME!!!!
People seem to forget you are supposed to DOT, not bath it on. Only on you pulse points, not your clothes.

SOME people, like myself, are seriously allergic to many perfumes and have asthma attacks and or hives from these bathing beauties. Nothings worse then getting stuck next to one on a plane or restaurant.

Its usually an old lady with teased hair and dagger nails who keeps digging in her coach bag for lipstick or a younger hair queen with her hair so teased you cant see the movie....grr..
Fun rant, one of my pet peeves..lol!

Our community has gone thru a lot of cigarette smoking legislation lately.

Our town passed the smoke free legislation that went into effect this past summer. All tobacco use is banned indoors. Restaurants, bars, you name it. No smoking within 30 feet of a door of any building. Town next door is looking to go that way as well.

I'm not advocating cigarette smoking or anything but,...........

I can read. I know going in if a restaurant or bar allows smoking. And I can choose to eat or drink there or not. Plus, I'm not hep on telling business owners how to run their businesses. If they wanna allow people to smoke in their establishment, that should be their right.

But the stinky perfumes!! Nobody does a thing about them.

Just passing by the perfume counters in the glitzy stores gives me a headache. Too many strong scents all mixed together in the air.

I think we need to mount a grass roots campaign against flagrant perfume/cologne use in public. :yes2:

I beg to differ. You haven't met my 100 lb. black lab when he eats something a "little off."

What's worse, he thinks he is a lap dog. Try getting a 100 lb. dog off of you in a hurry.

We have a "gentleman", a rather portly non-english speaking one at work. He is a recent arrival from "The Island". The older Cubans, the Hatians, The Gringo's, both black and white and even one Iranian all agree that he smells like a 32oz. bottle of Mistolin, a Cuban soap popular for cleaning tiles down here. This is the king of all over perfumers, trust me, all smells pale in comparison to this overweight, useless "stench free" son of socialism at it's best. He is a cleaner, a dirty job supposedly but he smells like a well groomed down home New Orleans Wh*re all through the day and is NEVER dirty!

Mistolin has a peculiar, recognizable SOAPY CLEAN odor.

I can not for the life of me understand why such a nasty habit continues and with all the death associated with it, why anybody in their right mind would want to smoke cigarettes. Before all of you cigarette smokers start posting your objections, let me say for the record that I am not trying to force you to stop. All people should be able to do whatever is legal in america if they want to, however, when you get to the point where its necessary for buildings to post signs because you do not have common decency to stay out of air shot of someone lungs, then I have a problem with you.

I,m just venting because my recent run in with a smoker resulted in a nasty discussion that ended in us both still working at the same police station but with silent glares. It seems that this co-worker who lives 1/2 block from me discovered that she and I not only lived on the same block, but worked at the same station.

After a few friendly exchanges of conversations over a period of time, the question came up about riding with me. Of course I said yes, because it really wasn,t a problem. She wanted to give me gas money and all that stuff which I refused because 1/2 block is nothing especially since I am going that way anyway. Well this worked out for exactly 1 week because after she became comfortable, she lit up a cigarette on the way to work while I drove and with the windows up, no permission, and my eye allergy....this did not work out. I pulled over and asked nicely if she would please not smoke and discard the cigarette or at least put it out. Remember now....we are on our way to work. The nasty filthy obscene words that came out of this womans mouth was flabergasting:aggress: and early in the morning I just could not believe that anybody would be going off like this over a cigarette.

I was proud of myself, I got out of the car on my side, went to her side...open the door and told her to GET OUT. That was it. I did not care how she got to work, I did not care if she was late, but the things she called me and all over a cigarette....well lets just say that everyday at work....we pass each other by without a word. She still stands outside smoking and is always taking a break for a smoke. Unbelievable.

Being a nurse, I seldom wear scent at all. We were taught in school that haveing a scent could nauseate someone who was sick. Not to mention the asthma attacks. 2 nurses that I have worked with did not pay attention to that suggestion/rule. Last week I ran into one of them in the cafeteria. She hugged me around the neck. When I got back to my area, I took a wet paper towel and washed my face and neck. 2 hours later, not only could I still smell her perfume, other people could smell it also. That is just WAY too much, even if you aren't a nurse around sick people.

So.........your presumption is that your fellow rider's display of vulgarity is due to her smoking. And........you deduce from this, that smokers are some of the rudest people.

Brilliant theory.

perfume and cigarrette odor is STANK!!!!

& add to the perfume stank & smoke stank the toilet stank.

My dad was the stinkiest bathroom user ever. He woud sit in there for hours, on the pot, in his own pot stink with the viceroys one after the other (for what seemed like forever), then mom would go in with those cans of freshners, something like lilac or 'roses'. Now you have cig stank mixed with poop stank mixed with air freshner stank.

That is triple STANK.

I think some cigarrettes, pipe & cigar tobacco smells good. Reminds me of fall, open bon fires and such.

& some perfumes & colognes smell good too, but not that many.

Ok, so what is the deal with women and stanky perfume in movies theaters?

Like some people at church & at work just put too much on, or some people don't bathe very much & pile on the perfume, not realizng how bad they really smell. Some people don't realize what they put on does not mix with their chemistry after & few minutes but it might smell nice right from the bottle & on others.

I gag when I am near an Abercrombie store - I don't know if they pump that cologne in the air along with the extremely loud music.... but it permeates that area of the mall!!! Did anyone here notice that or is it just the 2 malls I go to?
I move to the other side of the area when I have to pass by that store, to spare my baby and me :)

Cherry tobacco remind me of my grandpa..... I get all nostalgic, even if I'm sneezing my arse off.
On the some people dont bathe much..ROTFLOL! How very French of them. Trust me I had to stay there for an extended time. The subway "metro" is cologne/BO/chanel perfume/urine/ciggie. It's a lovely aroma. I had to hold my breath.

Many folks are "chemical sensitive" - LIKE ME!!!

But nobody seems to give a rats @*** whether I end up in ER because of their cologne, air freshners, etc..... This even includes people I work with......

They will listen to me choke half to death - and still spray more.....

They have made me severely sick on more than one occassion.....

One of the girls has a grandbaby that stays sick....... especially when she is around her grandma...... I told her to quit exposing the baby to all the "crap" that she wears..... it JUST MIGHT HELP!!!!

By the time you take a bath with one scented soap, then use scented bath powders of another kind, then put on clothes that have a scented detergent along with a scented fabric softener, then spray your hair with scented spray, use your scented makeup, and then spray on your FAVORITE cologne - YOU STINK.................CHEMICALLY. Believe me, all those scents mixed together - DO NOT SMELL GOOD........... Then you come to your office, light scented candles, spray aerosol cans of freshner, and put a new scented plug-in in the wall socket.
AND YOU THINK PEOPLE THINK YOU SMELL GREAT.............NOT HARDLY...........

I smoke - BUT I do not smoke around people that are sensitive or object too it........... But don't hang out in MY OFFICE with all your "crap" that I have to smell, if you don't want to smell cig smoke.....

If I can be considerate of your needs why can't you be considerate of mine??? You don't mind sending me to the hospital in a ambulance!!!!

My thoughts on the matter.

I'm EXTREMELY sensitive, period. Smells and strong fragrances can give me instant headaches. I hate shopping at department stores because of that. Pretty much my whole day could be ruined with a migraine if someone decides to marinate in their cologne. :(

Minnymouth
10-23-2007, 06:46 AM
Not only the "instant headache", but the coughing and choking that can come on, plus the asthma attack it can all create........ ( I can go into an asthma attack just walking thru the cologne or detergent isle in the store)... I buy everything un-scented and aerosol free (pump) cans.

Don't get me wrong folks, its a "free country"...... wear what you like..........some folks smell great!!!! Often wish that I myself could wear some of it...... but most I can't.

But also be considerate of the person who is being considerate of your dislikes also............

We all have health problems - in one shape form or fashion!!!!

I do my best to avoid people who are covered up in colognes, for my own health reasons. But yet even if I explain to them I'm allergic, they still get upset if I avoid them..... they tell me I'm ignoring them, etc. Why won't I be friends??? Well, their friendship can send me to the hospital...... don't need those kind of friends!!!

One of the doctors I used to go too had a sign in her office - DO NOT WEAR COLOGNE to this office - your Dr. is allergic to it................and will not see you if you do!!!!

How's that for being chemically sensitive.....

I do not like strong perfume, thats why I always wear Amazing Grace by Philosophy. Its just a clean smell, and people seem to like it. You have to be really close to smell it and it is not overpowering. I was helping with a wedding the other day and the second photographer had on the strongest perfume. Everytime she moved I wanted to puke. It smelled like the nasty powder that old ladies use. I also work with a lady that smells NASTY. Her perfume smells like it is 5 years old and she continues to wear it, and it gives me a headache. I understand what you are talking about!!! Some people need to get a clue :)

OMG I LMAO at the triple stank. Bandit, you are NUTS..LOL!!!
I cant understand WHY people think canned aerosol stank smells better than crap. Its all crap to me. I am DEATHLY allergic to most aerosol sprays, in particular LYSOL sends me into an instant asthma attack. My mother still insists upon spraying EVERYTHING with it daily and burning two different scented Yankee candles afterward. Then I try to have tea with her and end up with hives, clutching my inhaler, popping Zytrec.
Then my sister who has a million cats and whole house smells like catpan trys to cover up catpan (IMPOSSIBLE) with Febreeze and yankee candle. OMG..instant death. When i had a cat I would put baking soda in the catpan along with the arm and hammer litter and never had smells..plus Im OCD and cleaned it daily. Maybe hourly at times. :D
Yes, I am severely chemically sensative. I can really only vinagar and baking soda to clean and those Method brand cleaners. The only chemicals I buy are scrubbing bubbles for the bathroom (wear a mask) and sometimes I have to buy mildew killer for the grout. Windex also kills me. I have no idea why.
My other sister is so chemically sensative she was hospitalized this year for it.
Its odd, as I grew up in a FILTHY three bedroom house with two dogs, four cats, hamsters, birds no less than six people at any given time and my mother never cleaned. They say you grow stronger from the germs, but not me. This is how I became OCD as an adult.

Whatamess,
I can definitely relate to you and your allergies...... have been that way for years!!!!!!!! Getting old now, but at least I know what to avoid to help keep me healthy....

Household cleaners KILL ME...... Windex has amonia (very sensitive) and with many cleaners its the bleach or flouracarbons that make the spray cans spray.

My house is clean, but not from all the chemicals I use. Basic vinegar/water and lots of baking soda..... I use unscented detergent to mop my floors (works okay)

Note: If you have a child that stays sick (always a cold) cut back on the chemical use and see if it helps. Especially the Downey in the clothes and scented soap detergents.

I stayed sick a LOT as a kid because my mom used a lot of chemicals to clean with.....

I'm really sensitive to baby powder (anything with talcum in it), bleach, amonia, aerosal cans, colognes.) Wonder how many babies stay sick because mom uses baby powder instead of corn starch (that works just as good if not better)......??????

Many children has asthma due to what their parents use around the house which could be prevented..... what a shame!!! Downey or Snuggles in their clothes makes them sick all day!!! Something so simple, yet so deadly......

LOL! I don't get that either because the spray does not make the stinky crap smell go away...it just blends in making a new stinky smell that is nasty. Like, let's make lilac & crap scent in a can.

ROFL!!! Lilac and crap scent in a can. Imagine the advertising possibilities for that one!!!

I am very sensitive to chemicals--tobacco smoke (very allergic!!), perfumes, colognes, hairspray, and even the detergent aisle in the supermarket can set off a migraine if I am not careful. My kids don't seem to understand this and become offended if I say something about their cologne.

I had to quit singing in the choir because the perfume odors were so bad.

SOOOOOOO GLAD I'M NOT ALONE..................

I saw a thing on Dateline about chemical sensitive people..... and they hit it right on the nailhead about how sick we can become... all because of cologne, fabric scents, spray cans......

Evidently there are a LOT OF US, more than we realize...... and the numbers are growing.....

Someday I hope we have "RIGHTS" to help us in the work place..... Right now the only thing were protected from is mold and mildew (which OSHA) will come in and address if a company does not clean it up. Black mold can make you deathly sick. All you have to do is report it to OSHA - and they show up at the door........ They say it is as bad as abestos......

Nice to know I'm not alone with my own private allergies....... I'll willingly SHARE............
