Finding public court records online - CA

I figured someone here would know considering many of us have needed to put on our "armchair lawyer" hats on for our own legal work of bankruptcy.

I am looking specifically for divorce court procedings or the actual divorce decree for a divorce that occurred in California in the early 70's. 1970 to around 1973 (extreme latest) to be more precise.

I was on pacer but the earliest date you can choose to search for information is 1980.

Would anyone know of any similar government site that would give someone access to public records civil court papers such as this? Something like Pacer. I'd prefer a government site rather than a paid service site.

    Thank you for your help.

Finding decades-old divorce cases online is not likely to happen, chp. Since everything was on paper then, most courts microfiched the papers or still have the original paper files stored somewhere. Very few courts have scanned all their old cases to create electronic files because of the cost.

Do yiou know which state the divorce was filed in? Here's a list by state of how old divorce cases are stored for folks wanting to use them for geneology tracking...might be helpful - http://www.rootsweb.com/~txetgs/Meet...bliography.pdf
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

In some places, for example, Florida, many of the county records are on line and can be accesssed.

However you need to know the county for Florida so you can get into the Clerk of the Court records...you can try that for where you're searching and/or just call that county clerk's office if you can't get anywhere on line.
