    expenses (cable and internet)

Are cable tv and internet acceptable expenses on the schedule J in reducing to 100 a month? I currently have a cable tv and internet package that is 114/month. I have twin eight year olds that are starting to use the internet for school. Will the trustee make me get rid of this/not allow it as a reasonable expense for chapter 7?

I can reduce my cable expense by going to Verizon Fios but they would want a 2 year commitment. This would reduce my cabletv/internet by about 15/month. Wouldnt want to make that change and then have the commitment/early quit charge when comcast doesnt charge to cancel.

We used internet/cable expense on our schedules.

Here in NV. 341 is on Thursday so it remains to be seen what the Trustee's opinion is, but I have to assume that our Attorney wouldn't have put them down if they weren't acceptable expenses.

I am pretty sure that those would be acceptable expenses. Kids today have to have internet for school and for their general knowledge and socialization. I know that cable is also okay as long as it's not excessive. Our's was $55/month. I'm sure cable comes under "entertainment expenses" so look at the charts on the government's bankruptcy web site (I don't have the link handy) and see where you fall on everything, within the expense charts.

Whether internet and cable are acceptable expenses or not depends on your local court and their typical trustee practices. As long as the monthly cable and internet costs are not excessve, you should be fine. We had both listed on our expenses when we file - not a peep from our Ch 13 trustee.
