Write or call the state bar association in your state. Your bar association may have a web site that you could look up his record.
You could also check Pacer.

Contact your state's agency to report lawyer malpractice at http://www.nbtanet.org/public/discipline/index.shtml . The responsible agency for your state should know if the lawyer in question has indeed been disbarred.
