2008 "Tax Rebate" Notices....

...I received mine on Tuesday & where I work people have been receiving as well...

Now, I did try to see if and there are two ifs"

1...if you owe the IRS will you get your "rebate"...the concensus is generally, no, they will apply it to what you owe in your back taxes...

2....if you are in a "repayment" plan, I have seen information saying, "yes"...

Not quite sure but wondering if anyone else has done any investigating on this subject?

(I am currently in a "re-payment" plan...not counting on it, but if it so happens, fantastic!)

If you haven't heard, the rebates go according to the last 2 numbers of your SS# and also according to whether you e-filed or snail mailed...Those who e-filed will get checks first, with SS# coming into play, followed by snail mailers & SS#.

Thanks for posting this! I spent a little over $300 on Saturday getting my old (but paid for!) car tuned up, oil changed, tires balanced, etc., to maximize my gas mileage as much as possible. Put it on a credit card that had no balance. So part of my "stimulus" check --which should be in my bank around May 9th according to this article --will go to pay this bill in full. The rest is going to savings.

I still drool over the 37+ inch LCD flatscreen TV's, but with the economy being what it is, and with gas expected to reach the $4/gallon mark anytime now, I think I'll just keep watching TV on my old 27 inch.......... :cry:

www.irs.gov, click on "calculator" button, fill in your tax info, they will let you know if you still owed or get back any$$.. Easy as 1-2-3!

I'll just wait for the second letter that's going to tell me what I'm getting...or if they're going to apply the whole thing to my previous debt...guess I won't be stimulating the economy if that happens, I'll just owe less!:angel:

I haven't received a letter yet, and don't owe taxes. We shall see what we get(if anything) and when.
