I only have two bank accounts in the US with little money and no physical assets. What happens to the money in the bank if a debt collector gets a judgement for defaulting credit card debt? They gonna clean up my bank account or the bank just puts a freeze on it? If I file bankruptcy after the freeze, can i still get it back? Bit confused as I am overseas. Thanks

A few questions first.... Do you intend to come back to the US to live? How much is the "little money" in each account? Have you maintained a residence in the US while you have been overseas and if you have, which state is it in?I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

Hi Irprn,
I don't intend to come and live in the US for at least another 4-5 years. In one account I have about $1000, and in the other a/c it varies between $3000-$4000 because I have some online sales payments that go into it regularly and therefore can't close the a/c. Well, my bank statements go to my relative's address in Virginia and I still have a valid VA driver's licence. Thanks
And oh, the credit card statements also went to my relative's place until I messed it all up
