I'd imagine to file bankruptcy you have to list all your checking and savings accounts. How does the trustee or courts know that you've given an exhaustive list?
I have a checking and savings account with a credit union, and a recently opened ING savings account with $500 in it. That money would be exempt, but if I file, and say I forgot to list that account by accident, would they find out and come after me for fraud? Do they go by the list you give them and that's it? Not sure how that works.
