GE Money requesting very specific BK info.. is this normal?

I received a paper yesterday asking for bankruptcy information on an account with GE money..Its a discover card( Does GE money own everything?)

They ask for the case number (seems normal)
But then they want the 341 meeting date & the court where case is filed(this one seems okay as well but the 341 meeting date is what bothers me)

We have not filed yet but it should just be another week or so. Just need to resign everything.

Does this seem right or does it seem like excessive information? why would it matter when my 341 is and wouldnt they get that information after I file?

These are the only ones that my husband told we were filing bankruptcy! Now I wish he hadnt but we had thought we were going to be filed on May 1st.

    Any thoughts?

    thanks in advance!

I would not do anything until you file. I would set the paper in a corner of the desk. Once you file (in a week) write down the case number and mail it back. They will get everything else. If they do not, you have then provided the case number to them and they can get it themselves.

So many people say they are going to file bankruptcy or say they have already filed just to get the collectors to quit calling. The fact that you dont have a case number and cant give them a 341 date tells them that you have not filed yet so you are still fair game. True, once you file they will be notified of your 341 so it is strange that they would ask.

You are under no obligation to tell them anything. Once you file they will be notified.

I just received 2 letters from them also, just as you described...they must be on a roll....They'll get their notification when I file at the end of this week, just like everyone else will get notified.

They are only following-up on the information you told them. It's OK to tell creditors over the phone that you are filling for BK after you retain an attorney because the attorney will give you his/her contact information to provide to the creditor. After you retain an attorney, there is no need to provide any information to a creditor - just have them contact your attorney.

I received one from HBSC or whatever it is, in regards to a Menards card. I did not respond, seemed pointless since we are not filed. They already have our attorney's name and number which is info they also wanted. I will give these to our attorney once we are ready. We are still waiting on a stimulus check so who knows when it will be.
