    Past due RE Taxes

    Hello,

I just met w/ my attorney about my (possible) ch. 7 and forclosure. From some searches here and on other sites, I have found different opinions about past due Real Estate Taxes (but no leins) and whether or not they can be included in the 7. I know income tax is not allowed in the 7, but have read that RE taxes are (and have read they are not).

My atty says I will probably have to pay the back due RE taxes which are $20k. Property is in DC. He didn't sound too sure about it though.

    Anybody know?

    Thanks,

    Jim

Your property taxes fall under the jurisdiction of the county in which you reside or if your property is in the city limits of Washington, DC, under their jurisdiction. Your tax bill would indicate that information. I would find out what agency takes care of them and search the heck out of its website for any information you can find on property taxes (past due) and I would also consult with another attorney if you are uncertain as to his reply. That way you would have more information as to your circumstances and situation.
