My gut is telling me to run the other way, I bk'd Citi in my 13 with a citi card, Sears and Home Depot. Ive gotten two emails from them stating that since I am a valued Citimortgage customer they are offering 0% for 12 months on a card. Most of the post says Citi blacklists you because of your bk, but they know I bk'd and my mortgage was with them thru the bk. The letter doesnt say pre-approved, just seemed kinda odd. Would hate to waste a hard inquiry for nothing

Thoughts?

:dry:IS IT A GENERIC EMAIL? I WAS ALSO GETTING OFFERS AS A VALUED CUSTOMER. IF I AM A VALUED CUSTOMER I WOULD HATE TO SEE THE OTHER CUSTOMERS.

Wayne-o, I am in theorpy posting so may I share just an opinion? What got you to bk? Run like hell from any offers. Go cash or you do not need it. Just my opinion. 'Hub

wayne-0....you are just on a mailing list that was purchased or gleaned by the bank as to names being associated with their accounts. They do not run credit checks prior to sending out those mailings. They send out mass mailings hoping people will respond but once they run a credit check if you apply, you will more than likely be denied due to the BK. All through our Chapter 13 we got all sorts of stuff and, like you, even from creditors that were in our Chapter 13.

Citibank was an account that was included in my bankruptcy, which was almost two years ago. And much to my surprise, they recently approved, and are now financing, my car loan through their Citifinancial Auto department.

That's because it is a secured loan. Citimortgage has our refinanced mortgage which we obtained prior to discharge to buy out and Citibank was included in our filing. If it was for an unsecured Visa or Mastercard, there would be no approval.

Thank you all for your responses. I am listening and following my gut. Their email has been deleted

I understand your wanting a credit card for emergencies after filing; I'm in the same boat, trying to rebuild my credit. That's what this forum is for.

I'd say it's a matter of how long has it been since you filed and what are your credit scores?

If your credit score is back up to low-normal then the offer might be real and it might be worth it, especially if you've been post-discharge for a number of months.

But if you're just fresh out of discharge then I'd say it's not worth it to try with them unless you have unusually high numbers on your 3 credit scores.

If you haven't checked your reports, you MUST do so. I checked mine, and man! they have all kinds of stuff wrong! It's almost like they intended to screw up my reports. On Experian EVERY account had wrong info, and Transunion has about 65% wrong info, and Equifax had about 35% wrong info.

I filed Disputes and am waiting to hear. I just KNOW this is going to be a big struggle, to get them to do the right thing and list my accounts accurately.

Any email offer would be suspicious as far as I am concerned --- probably best to delete it. Or go to Citbank site (not from the email - Google Citbank and go to its site) and see where they say you might forward it for spoof and phishing. You never know - it could just be someone trying to steal identities. These people are good at faking an email to make it look like the real thing.
