    Letter of Thanks

Hello everyone......My name is Machelle and I am a lurker.

I just wanted to drop a note to every one of you who has taken the time to share your experience/information with the rest of us. My family has gone through a year of hell financially. I was out of a job, in a new house, new town, financially ruined after holding FICO scores of 700-750 for years. This last summer was very scary for us, but.......

With all the wonderful information here, we were able to make some good sound decisions that saved us, our home, and our sanity. I can't tell you how many nights I fell asleep in tears this last year. We are now about 4 weeks out from our Chapter 7 discharge and anticipating getting this whole mess behind us. I really felt that the information here gave me a clear understanding of what to expect from this entire process. We were careful to stay away from "the mills", showed up early to our 341 and kept our mouths shut untill asked for information, and quite tearing ourselves up for the situation we are in. We are smart people, just got stuck in a bad situation.

Anyway, thank you all. You have been my angels in life's nightmare.

Is it me or do we all still seem to be hanging out in the hall at high school? Grow Up!

    Dear CountryGirl:

You are most welcome, and may I say, thank you for your kind and generous thoughts.

All of us posting here are individuals, and our cases are very different from each other. But we are able to share our personal experiences, and support for each other.

May I ask, since you have now joined and posted, why not keep in touch and share your personal experience as you feel appropriate? You might be the one poster that can help another lurker in his or her situation.

    Thank you again, and Welcome!!

Thanks for the welcome. I plan on kickin' around a bit. We will have a long road to recovery but I really feel like we can do it, especially with all the added support found on this board. We have already started trying to rebuild our scores by pulling reports, getting letters written and ready to send, speaking with our banker about opening a savings and getting a personal loan equal to the account. I do not so much feel we need any credit at this point but I do not want to be foolish enough to not at least try to rebuild our scores as best as we can. It is amazing to me at how often you are valued based on your FICO. Well, I won't jump on that soap box.

I will say that we have pretty much followed all the best practices outlined on the boards, we even had some potentially sticky situations but stayed true to the course with recomended timelines, etc and actually found favor with the trustee. Our boys had some quads that did not qualify under our exemptions but my husband refused to liquidate them on principal. (We just could not take them away from them and figured we would let the trustee be the "bad guy" in that instance.) He actually let the boys keep them. They were 2006 machines so they did hold value, but we were able to keep them.

I can't say enough how much I appreciate all the advice here. To anyone reading this, please do dig on here and heed to advice of experience. You just don't need to reinvent the wheel if it is not necessary.

Congratulations! You and your family seem to be on a solid road to success, all the stronger because of the lessons learned through the bankruptcy process. Good to have you on board. Thanks to YOU for posting!
