Student loans show 0 bal. on credit report?

I was discharged last week from a ch. 7
I just pulled my credit report and I see that all of my old student loans show a zero balance, and included in ch. 7

Does this mean they were discharged??

my NEW student loan shows a balance.

Sorry, but no. Unless you meet very restrictive, stringent guidelines (essentially you are totally disabled and have no opportunity for employment), your unsecured student loans cannot be discharged in bankruptcy. Your credit report is just how the student loan companies have to report while the loans are listed in an active bankruptcy showing that they are not trying to collect on them - the automatic stay demands that.

Now that you are discharged, within 30 days the balances should return on your credit report with interest tacked on for the months you were in bankruptcy. The student loans will continue forward like your bk never happened.

Start making plans to start paying your old student loans this month now that you are discharged.

What is reported on your credit report has NO legal significance vis-a-vis your obligations to a debt.
