Direct deposit paycheck to non-spouse account

I've got several questions, but I'll list them separately, so it doesn't get too confusing.

I do not have a checking account. I have not had a checking account for about 5+ years when all of this debt started accumulating. When I started my current job I needed a place to start direct depositing my paychecks. There was no other option to receive pay. I started depositing into my partner's checking account. A month ago, I opened a limited savings account that would allow me to deposit and make only three withdrawals a month without getting charged a monthly fee. Therefore, when I deposit money (one paycheck and one annual stipend so far), I withdraw it in one lump sum. I pay cash for everything. The clincher is, I haven't been very good about keeping receipts.

How is this going to work?

I don't know if this helps at all, but I had a similar situation. I was on my partner's checking account, and having my checks direct deposited there too. Per my attorney, I opened a separate account in my name only and moved my direct deposit there. He said I should separate myself from her account... I was worried they would try to take her money too.

How soon before filing did you open the separate checking account? I'm thinking of waiting 90 days in an effort to accumulate receipts, etc.

It was only approximately a week before filing that I got a new checking account. That is when/what my attorney told me to do.
