ARGH......to make a long story short, about 5 days ago, I had 41.00 in my WaMu checking. I deposited 19.00 to make it an even 60.00, and withdrew the entire amount since I was going to call and close my account when I got back. So....I called and closed my account on the phone. They told me it would be 2 business days for it to close. I sign into my account this evening and my account is -19.00. WTF? So i call and they said that I never put any money in the envelope and lied so I could take out an even 60.00. I was soooo mad. I know what I put in. I told them to pull the tapes for when I was there and they can see me counting out the bills. They said that they do not do that. So, they said I can pay the 19.00 and close the account or they can send it to collections. I hate them sooo much. I know 19.00 isn't alot but I find it very odd that the day my account is supposed to close, all of a sudden they debit my account for 19.00. Now keep ing mind this is a full 5 days AFTER the deposit/withdrawal. I don't want to pay them but I just want to close my account so I don't have to mess with them anymore. OK, well I just needed to vent. I HATE THEM!!!!!!

I always deposit cash at my Bank of America ATM and never had a problem. I don't know about Chase though.Originally posted by magyar123 View PostWAMU is now Chase - so no wonder.
I hope the above post teaches folks a lesson - NEVER deposit cash through the ATM. You can't prove that you did, and they can deny that you did.

Sounds like the teller who took the cash out of that machine got some extra pocket cash. All they have to say is that no cash was in the envelope. Sad..._________________________________________

I'd ask to talk to the bank manager.
Depending on camera position it may or may not show clearly money was put into the envelope, but I'd request again to the bank manager that they be viewed.May 31st, 2007: Petition Filed by my lawyer

WAMU sucks!! I had them for my mortgage a few years back. We had an excess of 3400.00 in our escrow account. So I called and let the girl know that in my state they are only allowed 2-1/2 months excrow. SO they said they would send a check. Well we waitied waited and never got it, so I called and they said it was sent and we cash it. She sad my hubby cashed it and it was my problem, cause my hubby was lieing to me. Well I fought and fought and asked for a copy of the cashed check, they wouldn't send it and then I got some guy that thought it was fishy and sent me a copy of the cashed check and it wasn't my hhubbys signature. Well low and behold it was a scam in there office and someone was cashing the excess ecrow checks. Now, if I wasn't watching my account all the time, I would of been ripped off. Not all people log into there accounts online. Finally, after months we got our money. I immed. refianced with another company and will never do business with them. They are shady....

I'd just let them suffer it out and tell them "Fine, join the others in my BK"
WAMU has changed hands, but the hands they are in now, are just as greedy (Or nasty) as they were before.
I'm changing all my banking to US bank...Frankly, they have always been helpful and courteous. Plus, they're nationwide.
Regarding Bofa while they suck, they never swiped any cash from my deposits either, but it takes only once to never trust again.

I work for a major bank (not Wamu or BOA) but call the Wamu 800 number- there is actually a regulation ( i believe it's Reg D - but dont quote me!) that covers that. And i have never heard of a *bank* that doesn't keep cameras at their ATM. Someone is just being an A** to you. Seriously, call the customer service- speak with a supervisor; or go into that branch and demand the manager. They can fix it. Seriously- it's $20, you know?

As an ex employee, they DO have cameras at the ATM and around the ATM to view the ATM, but in reality that is to much work for $20. The hoops that have to be jumped through to get the video is a pita. What you can do is GO into the branch that the ATM is at and talk to the face to face. Tell them you deposited money blah blah blah... it could be a simple mistake that the atm custodian didnt put a cash in ticket in the envelope, if that is the case their atm gl will be out of balance. They might take the loss just to be done with it, they do have the authority for that. The least that could be done is research. You will get way further if you take the time to go into the branch. The 1800 number in most cases is completely useless, unhelpful and incorrect. Good Luck!Filed CH 7 05/06/09

Count me in as someone who knows that WaMu is the bane of evil. They stole 250 from my savings and kept telling me that they'd accidentally deposited it there, that it was from another customer, the wrong account number was keyed in, etc..., despite the fact that I had the deposit slip from the branch showing when I had deposited it. I never did see that money again, despite the fact that I went as high as I could go and was ignored.
Too bad they didn't have a class action lawsuit filed against them. I'd have been the first one in line.sigpic

WAMU may be full of it. If they actually said you deposited an empty envelope then why isn't your acct overdrawn by $34 to $49 or more? I say that because many banks will charge you an additional fee (I think $15 to $30 or more) for an empty envelope deposit followed by a withdrawl.
I have deposited cash and had no problems at ATMs although I now only gravitate towards those ATMs where you can deposit cash or checks WITHOUT using an envelope. This way the ATM counts, tallies the deposits and you verify before ending the transaction.

Same thing happened to us....we deposited 100 (5/$20 dollar bills). They said we only deposited 1 $20 bill...we had to call and go to the bank until they credited it back and a overdraft fee because of their mistake....keep bugging them eventually they will give in. One lady said at our local bank that if there was money left over for that day that they would credit the money back....what do they mean left over they probably rob people regularly....good luck.Filed Chapter 7 4/22/2009
