PACER Question

Hi all. I was directed to PACER through this forum but am not 100% sure what I am doing when I get there.

I click on my state (WI) and then check status but it does not say anything. Then I checked case summary and it shows flags reading REAF, MEANSYES. Then on one document it shows our 341 was completed and gives three choices of either Satisfied, Terminated, or Confirmation Hearing. Ours was under Terminated. Does anyone know what these things mean?

The reason I am concerned is because one of our creditor's (my father) lawyer showed up at our 341 and riddled me with stupid questions. I just would like to know what to look for at PACER to ease my mind.

are you reaferming a lona and are you chapter 13?

We are filing chapter 7. I'm not sure if you meant loan or lona, but it was a loan that is over 5 years old.

My father's lawyer showed up. Now I'm freakin'. I am not sure what REAF and MEANSYES means on PACER flags. We are reaffirming one home but surrendering another.

It pains me to post this, but in our district the MEANSYES flag means the case trustee or US Trustee feels the debtor(s) have the means to repay and the case is on the fast track to being dismissed or converted to a Ch. 13. Get in touch with your lawyer ASAP. In the meantime, look through the case history - there may be something there that gives you a heads-up.

REAF = reaffirmation. MEANSYES = yes, you are reaffirming an asset loan. That's all.

Now take a deep breath and and do your best to save your energy for when there's really something to worry about. Chances are even with your father's lawyer showing up, if he has no legitimate legal reason that's accepted by the court to object to your discharge, then it's all just hot air and your case will progress like almost all Ch 7s do - uneventfully and then discharge and close in about 60 days after your 341 as expected. Hang in there!

lrprn, you have given great advice in this forum (often to me!) but I have to urge the OP to check the abbreviations for their district on PACER. If you click the link "Court Information", you should find a page that spells out what each of the flags means. This varies from district to district, but I have never seen "MEANSYES" defined as anything other than "presumption of abuse exists".

Thanks for responding. Help, I checked the link you provided and in eastern WI it just defined MEANSYES as "yes". I think you both may be correct. We are surrendering a home with a good amount of equity in it and keeping our current newer home. They are using the equity in the home we are surrendering to pay the creditors (mainly my dad). Also the box was checked for the "presuption of abuse does not arise".

As I mentioned, I was just afraid how our bankruptcy would proceed after my dad's lawyer showed up.
