    ? re: cleaning credit reports

I am going through my Experian credit report and I'm wanting to know if "Petition for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy" is acceptable for the status. Most of my creditors listed this in the status, but a couple stated "Debt included in Bankruptcy" and "Discharged through Bankruptcy". Which those 2 I know are ok.

    TIA

When did you file? When were you discharged? If you were discharged recently, wait at least until 3 months after discharge to pull your reports for information to catch up and be revised by the creditors. If you are way beyond your discharge by several months, your debts included in your filing should state something along the lines of discharged or included in Chapter 7 bankruptcy and in the status column they usually list the Chapter filed and the date filed/discharged. If you were late prior to your filing on payments, those may continue to show as that information cannot be removed because it took place prior to your filing.

We filed in Aug 2007, was discharged in Jan 2008, and my credit report is dated Aug 2008. I haven't done anything as far as cleaning them up until now.

I did notice that the status date for all these are listed as Aug 2007. I guess I'll have to check and see if things have been updated.

Thanks for the response. I'm sure I will have more questions coming as I go through this process.
