I am wondering if it is true that if I land a federal job they will pay my student loan debt back so much a year? Everything I read says they will. I had an interview at a local VA hospital a few weeks ago. Am I simply dreaming? And I am in the midst of a ch13 which I can trasfer to a ch7 in June of 2010--and cant wait! So what happens if I get this federal job?

So what happens if I get this federal job?The good news - if you have federal student loans and work in a federal job, it's possible to reduce your loans up to $10,000 a year for up to $60,000 total. Here's the details - http://www.makingthedifference.org/federalbenefits/loanrepayment.shtml and http://www.opm.gov/oca/pay/studentloan/

Private student loans cannot be repaid through gov't employment.

How a repayment program like this works inside an active Ch 13 could be tricky. Your lawyer will have to help you figure that out.

just a second, not to burst your bubble...but it depends on the agency you work for, their guidelines, and what your status with the federal government is. i am excepted service, and i do not qualify for any tuition assistance or loan forgiveness. even though my agency clearly offers it. just read the fine print.
