I have a question about side work. We just filed Chapter 7,
Sept. 29th. Our meeting with the trustee is Nov.7th. So, we are not very far into this.
My husband has been trying to get some work on the side to help make ends meet. He finally has a potential offer,
but we don't know if he should take it
. Can he do this since we filed? I mean, I know he can take the job. But can we use the money to help make ends meet? Or will we have to give the money to the trustee? It is only a one time job, and depending on how long it takes to do the job, it may be as little as $25, but could be as much as several hundred $'s
.
I don't mind giving some to the trustee for our debts, but since everything is supposed to be discharged, I'd hate for my husband to work all of his spare time, taking time away from our family, if it will all go to old debt and not be allowed to use it for the present day living expenses.
It's just that with gas prices and having had to come up with the attorney fees, we are not making it from paycheck to paycheck. We are having to sell our kids toys (things they've outgrown, but still...). Now we will have to resort to payday loans.
I know that's just a fact of life. But I hate to have to spend money on those fees too, if my husband can accept this side work, and if we will be allowed to keep it and spend it on living expenses.
Does anyone know how this is viewed with chapter 7's?
Thanks!
