A few months ago I wrote several bad checks at an Illinois casino on a single day and lost the money gambling. I could not cover the losses and the checks bounced. The checks amounted to just over $3000. Bad thing to do, I know...but gambling addicts do some bad things. Anyhow, I'm filing bankruptcy. I realize that the bad checks are not dischargable, but will the bankruptcy help me avoid prosecution? I need help please.

I would think not as it's a crime.
The best you could hope for is that with a plan to repay they may not prosecute.
They are interested in getting the money.

I would consult your bk attorney and ask. What you described is a felony where I live (Vegas)

Your best bet would be a prompt repayment plan with the casino (propose something under 90 days). Then wait at least 90 days after that to file.

The BK will not avoid prosecution, but it does discharge the underlying civil liability, but it cannot discharge the criminal liability. Depending on the amount and situation, passing bad checks is either a misdemeanor or felony.

The bankruptcy may help in ultimately settling the bad debt.
