We've just become aquainted with them. One of our CC's has turned our acct over to them for collections.Originally posted by fellowpoormanACS(Academy collection services) of philadelphia comes to mind for sure
The CC is offering to settle for 80% of what we owe right now.
When I first scanned the letter, I thought they were giving us 30 days to pay up or they were gonna get a judgement against us. I scrambled to read the law in our State to see if they could do that without our knowledge. But nope. They can't. If ACS comes after us, we'll know. They have to sue us first.
Interesting how they selected the wording of their letter to imply there was a judgement against us already. When I went back and reread the letter very carefully, I realized that's not what they said. But it sure looked that way on a quick once over read thru.Filed Ch 7 - 09/06

Expect all the usual actions, lots of calls, misidentifying themselves, they called a neighbor of mine and said there was an emergency and she needed to have me call them ASAP, wish I knew then what I know now, they are rude, threatening sheriffs are on the way etc. You are educated enough now to know how to handle these so called "people" False names, just watch they will all be simple common names like Joe Martin, Mary Jones and so on. Don't give any personal info, mess with them for fun if you want to, a favorite of mine was to ask them if they would give permission for me to record the call, ask them to call back in a day, and play around like you are recording , if they call, usually they will just hang up though. But you know what you are doing by now. They really are a scum company thogh.. Good luck Stick it to them for me

I'm hoping once we get this move done and over with that we'll be able to file. The attny's been waiting until we got into the new place. Even tho we have a signed lease and paid our security deposit, the new Landlord could still balk and not take us. Once we're in the place, tho, it's a different story.
Maybe we won't have to put up with them at all. The letter was dated the middle of May. That gives us to the middle of June, maybe, before they start harrassing us.Filed Ch 7 - 09/06

SinkingFast,
Be patient, get things organized, all your ducks in a row (moving etc.) and then file your BK.....
Hopefully things will start to straighten out in your lives as soon as you can get all this behind you...... sure has been a struggle for you, I know......
Yes, its time some of these "credit places" get sued and pay penalties for "stepping over the boundaries - the law allows"...........
At least when we file bankruptcy - it's our "right" and "its within the guidelines of the law"............

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.
