    Taking the credit class online

I am taking the credit class online at the moment. What a waste of 50 bucks! They time you to make sure that you take 2 hours to read the entire test. I already know all the answers so am just surfing the net while the timer is running. Gotta sit here until 10:30. What a racket!!!!

What a joke--making you take 2 hours! Makes me really enthused about doing mine.

        krobin02,
I see where you are still waiting on discharge....

Make a courtsey call to the clerk of courts where your petition was filed and see if your case has been closed and just not recorded yet......

You should have your discharge by now......

Do a little research and check it out..........

Interesting...my husband and I did our required counseling online too through Hummingbird - cost $49 total for the two of us. They didn't care how long it took us to go through their exercises and there was no "timing" involved. It took us about 15 minutes to fill out the forms ahead of time and 30 minutes to go through the course online. We then had to make a toll-free phone call and talk to one of their counselors afterwards during business hours - took about 10 minutes for the call. Piece of cake.

It's ironic that the approved organizations who are allowed to provide the pre-filing counseling are finding they are losing money on the courses, even at $50 a pop. They are starting to squawk, and since there's no provision in the new law to cover fee shortages for these providers, I'm thinking we are likely to see fee increases for the required pre-bankruptcy course soon.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

when you take an online course do they have a certain time to take it or is it when it's most convenient to you. I am asking becasue I took an online course for my pre-bankruptcy certificate and it they had a time so you picked the one that fits your schedule or they let you know ahead of time what time the course will take place before paying for it. I took the course but if I wanted the certificate I had to pay. They didn't send me my certificate until I paid. But for the post bankruptcy I have to pay first. What if I can't take it at the time they have it scheduled for. I'm taking about www.inchargefoundation.org. I used a different one for my pre-bankruptcy.

No. The online course you take must be from an approved credit counseling agency for your state. Go to http://www.usdoj.gov/ust/eo/bapcpa/ccde/cc_approved.htm and click your state to see the list of approved agencies for your state. Also a few bk lawyers give their own courses that are approved - depends on your lawyer.

Each approved credit counseling agency can have a different process to successfully complete the course and get your certificate. If you don't like the way one does it, you can always try another.

I used Hummingbird which is approved by USDOJ. Look under your state, Hummingbird may have a link for your state. I paid $19 did it online. You watch a video and look for 5 words that go across the screen and write them down - you will need them to proof that you watched the video and take a short quiz which is everything covered in the video. Each video is good for about a week, so if you can't do it all in one sitting you can go back to the video where you left off. I paid through Paypal and received an email within 2 days with the link to print out my Debtor Education certificate.

                    Good Luck

I think what I am saying is, as long as the online site is approved by my state, then I can take it, even though it may be an out of state website.
