    Going for a new job....

Corrections Officer ( In California )... now... would a Ch 13 hurt your security clearance? You'd think it wouldn't because you cannot take on any new debt. Hope someone here might be able help me out. Thx.

I do believe Bankruptcies have an effect on security clearances. Been a long while since I have had one (had one when I was in the Marines) and bankruptcies were an automatic failure for the position you may have been going for.

History is full of people who have had a rough money and credit history that have been easily bribed to do things that they never thought themselves capable of doing.....all for the sake of an extra buck.

not saying you would do such a thing.....but some places may look at it that way. depending on the job, mission and over all goal of the team.

Here's how the Department of Defense handles granting security clearances for prior bk filers - found this at http://www.dss.mil/aboutdss/faq.htm
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

      06/01/06 - Filed Ch 13
      06/28/06 - 341 Meeting
      07/18/06 - Confirmation Hearing - not confirmed, 3 objections
10/05/06 - Hearing to resolve 2 trustee objections
01/24/07 - Judge dismisses mortgage company objection
      09/27/07 - Confirmed at last!
06/10/11 - Trustee confirms all payments made
      08/10/11 - DISCHARGED !

      10/02/11 - CASE CLOSED
Countdown: 60 months paid, 0 months to go

Thx for all of the info... I talked to a friend of mine who is a Correctional Officer or Prison Guard... he said he wasn't sure and said he'd check around. He got back to me and said it shouldn't matter. At least thats what he heard... I go for my test in two weeks... I'll keep ya'll posted.
