Confirmation Hearing rescheduled due to health

I am a new law pro se chapter 13 since I have worked as a paralegal in bankruptcy law for over 15 years.

My confirmation hearing is August 16, 2006 at 9:30; however, I have had a BIG problem. I went to my doctor last Friday and she said I have a borderline cancer marker for ovarian cancer. She has scheduled an ultrasound for 8/10/06 and depending on what those results are I may have to consult with an oncologist the week of my confirmation hearing.

Do you think I might have a chance of getting my confirmation hearing rescheduled if I filed an emergency motion and sought the concurrence of the chapter 13 trustee? I can provide proof of the ultrasound/test results to the judge and the trustee. If further tests prove that I do have ovarian cancer, that kind of throws a wrench in my Chapter 13. What do you think? My old boss said he saw no problem with filing the motion, and since it is essentially a matter of life and death that it should be granted. I want it to be rescheduled for September so that I can have my bearings about me. The last thing I expected to be told Friday was that I possibly had ovarian cancer.

I am so scared right now about this.

What terrible timing for you, prose13! So sorry to hear about your medical troubles on top of filing bk at such a stressful time.

If you think there's a chance that you might have to miss your 341, then I would prep the trustee and court accordingly and explain why.

On a personal note, I'm a critical care RN - if you would like, private-message me with which marker of yours was elevated and whether the test was done on urine or blood. The markers vary in their reliability as far as prediction accuracy and I might be able to give you some insights there. Know I am praying for a good outcome for you, and no matter what, at least you will know what you are dealing with and can plan ahead proactively. So sorry hear about your health problems, as said do contact the trustee office and let them know about your emergency medical needs, after all, the trustee and their staff are human and I do believe will have compassion for your genuine needs.
