Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!) (updated: 04/28/2015)

Welcome to the Bankruptcy Forum. Bankruptcy (BK) Forum is known as BKForum.com and will be referred to as BKF hereinafter. In order to ensure a long term success of our vibrant community, we have established certain rules and guidelines to which everyone must adhere to. Please take your time to carefully read our rules, before you start to participate in the community.

Things you agree to do:
BKFORUM.com (BKF) users agree to use the search function before starting a new thread. This prevents duplicate discussions and allows for better organized topics.

All BKF users agree to read the sticky posts which may be available at the top of a forum page. These Sticky posts often contain valuable information. They may also outline more rules and guidelines specific for that particular forum, stickies are put in place by that forums moderator(s) or admin(s).

Things you agree not to do:

All BKF users agree not to call people names or write a post simply to make a personal attack, or get a negative reaction; this behavior is not allowed on our forum. The use of derogatory language aimed at anyone will be severely dealt with. There is no need to agree with each other, or to even like each other. However, by signing onto BKForum.com you agree to treat each member and guest with the respect they deserve. No threats or personal attacks will be allowed.

All BKF users agree not to discuss, engage, or encourage any behavior or activity which violates the law. Discussion of drugs, violence, murder, theft, vandalism, fraud or any other issue which could be used to help individuals break the law is strictly forbidden.

All BKF users agree not to "bump" old threads, unless there is a specific benefit to the community by doing so. But in most cases, please don't post in very old threads, instead start new threads.

All BKF users agree not to attempt/use another members account. It is against BKF rules to use any account other than your own. Impersonating another member will result in an immediate ban. It is also against the rules to open more than one account in your own name without permission from a moderator or administrator. If you have been banned for any reason, it is against the rules to open another account. If you were banned temporarily and you are caught using another account you will be banned permanently. Choosing a moniker which is similar in either sound or spelling as a moderator or administrator is strictly forbidden.

Regarding actions of moderators and administrators:

The forum is no place to air out your opinion or be judgmental of our staff and its capabilities.

All BKF users agree not to abuse or mistreat moderators or administrators. It is against BKF rules to post any information regarding bans or any other action taken by a member of the moderating or administrative team. If you wish to discuss bans or warnings please do so via PM. To place a complaint against a moderator, send a PM to a super moderator. All Moderators are equal, any decision made by a moderator must be adhered to. If a moderator tells you something you do not like, do not go to another moderator looking for a different answer. If you are caught doing this you will be banned. The moderators work as a team and respect the decisions made by their peers and will help enforce them unless an administrator tells them differently.
If you have an issue with how the forum is run, then notify one of our administrator and we will look into the situation. We have in the past and still do appreciate any input that you offer this forum. But critical input and/or judgmental postings towards the staff will result in you getting banned.

Should you find a thread offensive or out of line, then notify a Mod in a PM so they can evaluate the situation and do the action deemed necessary.

If you have a problem with a member or Mod follow the proper channels of reporting it.

BKF reserves the right to delete any posts which contain anti-BKF comments or discussion. Any bashing of moderators or administrators, or any of their discussion or actions will also be deleted, and the responsible posting party(s) will be banned. Any public anti-BKF advertising, communication, or posts on another forum will result in permanent bans as well.

All warnings and bans are decided by individual moderators and administrators. Warnings are preferable to bans however, for serious offenses and repeat abusers bans will go into effect. The length of the bans can vary from several hours to permanent.

You agree not to copy any material/post/content from BKF without written permission from our head administrator .

By posting on this forum you agree to these terms and conditions, including any punishment deemed appropriate by moderators or administrators in the event of an offense.

Administrators/Moderators can change these rules at any time without prior notice.

  • Just got discharge and need some advice

Can someone tell me where i need to go to have access to my credit report so I can keep reviewing it and getting the reports corrected that are on it. I did the free one that you get by law but you just get that once I believe and cant keep monitoring it to make things get fixed. I am completely new to this all. I just received my discharge in the mail last week so I will take all advice given to get me on the right path.

i had some state tax liens on my credit where I opened a business retail tax certificate but never done anything with it and the pro rated the taxes and it went on my credit. I have since then filled all paper work to close it and get the liens taken care of. The state sent me papers showing that the liens are taken care of because there are some still on my report that are showing open.

You can basically monitor for free, weekly TU at Credit Karma, monthly EX at Credit.com and Credit Sesame. For $12.95/mo., EliminateIDTheft (My Privacy Matters), 3-in-1 daily pulls (after 24 hrs. + 1 min.), USAA is better, but more expensive at $22.95/mo. If you sign up for any of them, ignore the scores as they are not FICO.

What is the question on the liens?

Have you already gotten copies of all 3 of your credit reports? If not, go to annualcreditreport.com and get the ones you don't have. Or, just get one for now and one of the others in 4 months from now and do that every 4 months. Most errors will show up on all 3 reports. If you dispute an error, the creditor should fix all reports. Reviewing each report once a year should be sufficent. I'd wait until 60 days after discharge to review any report to give things time to settle.

Certain events entitle you to a free or reduced price credit report even if you received one within 12 months. Go to http://www.consumerfinance.gov/askcf...it-report.html for more information.

If you want to monitor your reports more than the free copies allow, you will have to pay for a credit monitoring service. All 3 bureaus offer them as well as other services. A Google search will turn up many options. Make sure you read the fine print about cancellation policies.

Credit Karma sux, my score on their site has not changed in over 10 months and the score is far below my real TU FICO score.

Credit Karma is free, and the only free service that is weekly. The scores should be viewed as entertainment. Every once in awhile mine goes over 700, that is always entertaining as my actual Fico has never come close, but I love seeing it.

If you don't mind paying, USAA is the best 3-in-1 option, if you can sign up for it. They've recently changed their terms as to who can join even as a partial member.

The most detailed reports come from each individual CRA, but you have to pay for them if you've already had your annual. Any of the monitoring services available do not show as much detailed info as those from the CRA's but they are fine for monitoring. Do some more research, before signing up to find the one that's right for you. I'd go ahead sign up for the freebies since they don't cost anything.

And be sure and keep your old full annual reports. They may come in handy in case something shows up incorrectly, which does happen.

My barclay card has starting a FICO score online. Is this legit or like a fako score like credit karma.

The credit score with your Barclay's card is a TU Fico. A number of CC's began giving customers monthly Fico scores recently. I believe Discover now does, and Walmart has been doing this for awhile.

                            CreditKarma: 697

                            Barclay's: 657

I was in the same boat as you few months before I was discharged I signed up for myfico.com and experian credit tracker to make sure everything was reporting correctly.

Scorewatch is 14.95 but if you call them up and cancel they will cut that in half to keep you as a member. I also had their quarterly transunion service for 4.95 a month. I did the same with experian credit tracker, it started out as I beleive 19.95 then lowered it to 8.95 when I tried to cancel.

I no longer have any of these services as everything has finally dropped off my report

                              Good luck to you.
