Signing papers tomorrow for filing on or after the 27th!

We're going to be signing the papers tomorrow to get the ball rolling on filing. Our attorney doesn't want to file before 3/27/07, but we're going to go ahead and get everything ready. Not sure why he wants to delay filing. Any ideas? I think I'll ask him tomorrow, but wondered what you all thought. I'm so excited/nervous about starting the process.

When will we get a "filing number" or whatever the creditors want so they know you've filed? Is it given to us by the attorney in person or through the mail? What happens next?

Any clues would be appreciated!

No (although delaying for six days isn't very long). Asking your lawyer is the best way to find out the reason.

When will we get a "filing number" or whatever the creditors want so they know you've filed? Is it given to us by the attorney in person or through the mail?

If your lawyer files electronically, he will have your case number very quickly within minutes to hours. If he files the real papers, you typically will get a letter within 7-10 days from the court.

What happens next?

You wait to see when your 341 meeting is scheduled so you can be certain to be there. If all goes as expected, it's the one and only time the debtor is required to be present during the whole process.
