    Employment

I am wondering if anyone has been turned down for a job after filing bankruptcy? I know most companies now will do background check some do credit check as well. Is bankruptcy a factor in the hiring process?

Companies are generally looking for collections, charge-offs, and judgments, because the theory is that someone who is heavily indebted, and in default, will be more likely to steal from their employer. A person who has filed for bankruptcy and discharged their debts does not present any such risk. Also, by choosing to permanently solve your debt problems through bankruptcy, you appear to be more responsible than someone who simply buries their head in the sand.
