Thanks tobee - keep that spare room open! Actually, I think I have about 6 more months - haven't heard from the Sheriff yet about a sale so may be more. Unknown at this time. In MN it's customary that you have 6 months after the Sheriff's sale to vacate the premises.

I am seriously hoping that with the 2 last positions, which were both government - one county, this one city, that my name and expertise will get out and I will be hired somewhere. Not holding my breath, just hoping.

i'm hoping the best for you! i think you'll end up with one of the those nice jobs...maybe with a bit of security...if possible!!

i understand you believe and trust in the bls info...and you have a perfect right to do just that....AND....because it's wrong...that's ok as well. most likely you personally have never experienced these types of situations in your lifetime...so it is always easier to view from the outside in. i don't want you to rant back and tell me how you worked all your life and lost your job and paid into unemployment insurance but you shouldn't receive it because the labor stats say so. and, believe, me i understand averages much clearer than you........but when someone makes up numbers to best suit their own needs then they make a reality that is false and untrue.

Did you seriously not understand this? Am I expecting too much for you tobee? So far you have NOT answered any of my questions to you. Must I repeat them again, or will you re-read what I asked you above about the BLS numbers and kindly reply.

Explain how the govt is lying by saying folks like discouraged do not exist? Are you just too dull to understand the government statistics, or are you deliberately ignoring everything that does not agree with your viewpoint? And the same question to tobee, who also thinks the BLS stats are "bogus". Why do you think this,

you FAILED to address the fact we have paid OURSELVES into our IU accounts in the state where we lived and worked..........address that PLEASE....our funds indicate we have left after over 50 years. and them taking FROM US out of our paychecks,...well over $45,600 left in that account..... that WE contributed IN OUR OWN .......NOT government bale out monies...which may be in the case in many other states......we would LIKE our money BACK....it was our insurance we paid into.

we NOW live in a state that has extremely high unemployment, however, we moved here after no longer being about to afford our house after 33 years of hard work after illness and job loss.....you ole goat!! we want WHAT WE PAID FOR! LOL....!!! i promise NO NAME calling so i meant that only in the most lovingly way......
i know why don't we just become a socialist state...would that make you happier???

State unemployment numbers vary widely among the states. The BLS also reports on state and local unemployment. So why do you think just because your state UI is higher than the national average UI that you are being lied to? I mean, are you serious? Do you understand what an average number means?

As far as the UI extensions are concerned, the Republicans are the ones that want to stop any further extensions. Don't expect this lame duck session to bale anyone out. And when the tea party extremists are in Congress next year, you all better get larger trash bags for collecting those cans and bottles. Where is dallasfw? Your situation is why I am posting the way I do. The sleeping giant American people won't step up and one reason is because we are all being lied to with the phony stats of 9%.

Our govt is basically lying to the sheep by not even saying folks like you exist. If the sheep realize you exist they may do as I do and spend more hard earned money home and buy as little of the chinese crap as possible.

Perhaps if you spent more time researching how the UI numbers are collected and analyzed, and less time posting on this board, your comments would be more credible.

The U-6 number includes all these persons, as defined below. Explain to me how discouraged is missing from the U-6 number unemployed, as defined by the BLS below:

NOTE: U-6 Total unemployed, plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force, plus total employed part time for economic reasons, as a percent of the civilian labor force plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force.
NOTE:
Persons marginally attached to the labor force are those who currently are neither working nor looking for work but indicate that they want and are available for a job and have looked for work sometime in the past 12 months. Discouraged workers, a subset of the marginally attached, have given a job-market related reason for not currently looking for work. Persons employed part time for economic reasons are those who want and are available for full-time work but have had to settle for a part-time schedule. Updated population controls are introduced annually with the release of January data.

What's the suggestion for people like me - 'downsized (let g0)' 2 years ago, worked a part-time 6 month job last year and now have a 3 month full-time temporay job. What happens to me, and others in the same boat, who have no more unemployment left? Gosh, I'm 57, have been working since I was 16 and this is the first time I have ever applied for/been on unemployment.

What's left for me, and others like me as , due to our age, no one is breaking down my doors to hire me. I have 5 yrs before I can apply for social security, but, with no income, even that seems too far away.

I think it's time for the American people to step up and say, Wait a minute - that's my mother, father, uncle or aunt that you are assigning to poverty. That's enough now.

If enough people do it, either we'll get the jobs that we rightfully, with our knowledge, should have or they can figure out how we are supposed to survive this. Stopping our unemployment benefits because our age is causing our unemployment is NOT the answer.

Very sorry about your situation discouraged. I have been there before though much younger, not at 57.

I'm afraid standing on line around the block for more crap especially with the holidays coming will continue until we all end up in your situation. Only then will the sheep wake up.

And your point is? Do you really think no one in the country has found a new job yet this year?

You could right a nice letter to the BLS asking for the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of all the people that found a job this year. That would be a list of around 1 million people. Then, since you have plenty of time on your hands, you could call each one and confirm they found a job and what kind of job it is. Then, you could post on each new finding right here. Just think tobee - that would be another 1 million posts for you on the BK forum. I say - go for it!


And why does this report have anything to do with UI extensions? If 15 million people are out of work and only 1 million have found new jobs this year, I'd say that little fact overrides any weak unemployment report. You would prefer that the UI report always reports only job losses so the UI extensions will continue? That sounds like welfare forever to me. I didn't know you were a flaming liberal.

it does have to do with UI extensions because these figures are bogus...and unlike many states we paid in for years to get our UI insurance. one of us for over 50 years.......so it's NOT you're money or even the governments...it's OURS...i do understand in many states that is NOT the case but it is where WE paid in.

Yep I see the light now. I just figured that there are 15 million souls out of work or flipping burgers so at this rate in just under 9 years we will be back to full employment again. This is also assuming that no newbies do anything sneaky like enter the work force.

What I will do is start a movement to remove the "no third term" clause so like FDR we will all be blessed with the "Obama Era" and he will be in long enough to create the needed jobs by 2019.
