A round of Golf and here goes our future??? EXCUSE me...please help me explain this??

i don't know about you...but i can't afford a round of golf nowadays...and please don't take me wrong, i LOVE the USA and the symbolic significance of our position in this world. we should be an example, correct???? however, i certainly have an issue with a round of "golf" possibly determining the future of this country and it's direction...do you?????? i ask, or really want to know, if this seems odd to anyone else but me...of course, LOL!! we all know i am "somewhat" out of the box, but i believe this situation is far reaching than that of a simple opinion.

we are speaking here about buying FOOD, GAS necessities....

please express your opinion, just so i can develop an understanding....

I cannot believe this president. While I do not want to get political, it's hard not too with this question or comment. This is a disgrace and I do not think you are crazy.

We who see are not crazy. Our Vacationer-in-Chief is playing President. He has done nothing but make our Treasury pay off his boys. Now our Speaker is sniffing up 'Bammy's bung and crossing us who had faith albeit little of it, that the Rep's may be able to throttle "Golf Wizz" down a bit.

I see with my own eyes, no one speaks for me: The price of fuel, food, the empty houses at least two per mile all over our County, we now have a multitude of people with a card table selling tomatoes, and all week long yard sales. How do you spell depression? O B A M A, O B A M A!!!

Can't blame Bush as it is on his watch, not Bush's that this Country is falling into decay. We are certainly getting the best government money can buy. Pass the caviar Michelle.

Same page?? Who was quoted saying "no bread? Then let them eat cake". Off with her head. If you want to hear History repeat itself, youtube the 1937 speech by A. Hitler. You will hear familiar words. If/When Marshal Law is imposed, there are no elections. An easy thing to get into, just make up a war. It's happened many times in other Countries, can it NOT happen here? Think again.

that's exactly why this is so frightening...it can happen HERE...actually it is..isn't it?

do you think if i learn to play golf, i'll have a better change of surviving this depression, recession, this DEEP dark enigma of an abyss to know where?? or whatever "they" want to call it?

I doubt with the inflation we are having and the hyper-inflation expected, that we on fixed incomes will be able to do much of anything but survive. Remember the saying: and when they came for me, there was nobody.

Speaking of golfing, our nearest 'city' owns a golf course that was designed by Donald Ross in 1926. For many years, it has been a money loser for the city. and there are those that want to sell it to a private concern. But each time that suggestion arises, the city fathers (and mothers), re-tool and re-think how the course is presented to the public. They like the idea of owning a 'Donald Ross' course and consider it a gem. And it may well be to those, who care about those things.

But we are a rural county where the major employers are a Paper and Pulp wood mill, a coal fired power plant, a state correctional institution, county and municipal governments, a four-year college, and a call center. Most everyone working at these places are making minimum wage, or only a few dollars better, and everyone of these employers have had to cut their hours and employees.

So there is not the income locally there that the city fathers would like to see support this golf course. I just noticed a new sign on the major road near the course, advertising the course, and the fact that the golf club's restaurant is now open to the public.

i suppose the town is attempting to generate some revenue for the town???

i'm not really knowing the significance of a "donald ross" course...i do, however, do know ross' dept store on tuesdays...(20% off old people's day)

Yes, they are attempting to generate revenue, however, the costs of keeping the course and greens properly maintained, as well as a Golf Pro onboard, far outweighs any income.

Donald Ross was a noted golf course architect of the early 1900s. Many of the more famous courses are his designs--or modeled after his designs.

that goes to show you how much i know about golf. my dad plays almost everyday! he's 93 so that's pretty sweet and i would say expensive. certainly golf and skiing we will not be taking part in, most likely forever.
